Job Summary

The AV-8B Aircraft Mechanic II Ordnance Loader Performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance such as service, repair, and removal/replacement of defective components and aircraft wiring. Disassembles suspension equipment and inspects for wear, warping, or other defects. Repairs or replaces defective parts, reassembles and installs repaired/serviced components on aircraft using hand tools, power tools, drills rivet guns and soldering gun.

Reads and interprets manufacturing and military maintenance manuals, service bulletins, checklists and other specifications to determine method of repair/replacement of defective or malfunctioning components, suspension equipment and test equipment. Utilizes multimeters, flow meters, force retention gauges and specialized weapon peculiar testers to check functioning and operational readiness of delivery systems such as bomb release/arming, missiles, gun rocket, flare firing, and arming circuits. As directed by site operations and site management be certified as a CDI. Configures/de-configures for missions such as install/remove pylons, external fuel tanks, triple/multiple bomb ejectors, gun and ammunition packages, missile launchers, pods, and cameras. Perform pre-flight/post flight checks/tests such as stay voltage, vidicon tracking, missile tone/tracking, and installation of explosive devices. Must have a current state driver’s license and be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license endorsement for hazardous/explosive material to handle, load, and transport high explosives such as bombs, flares, missiles, gun ammunition and cartridge actuated devices from storage/ assembly buildings to designated loading, arming/disarming areas.


Minimum Requirements

  • Must have completed AO “C” school, FRAMP training for the Navy attack/fighter aircraft, and conventional weapons loading school.
  • Must be familiar with aircraft conventional ordnance, ordnance, ordnance launching mechanisms, armament loaders and associated special and general support equipment.
  • Must have at least three years’ experience working “O” level ordnance, one of which must have been within the last three years.
  • Must be able certifiable to drive five-ton ordnance truck.
  • Must pass annual medical screening and physical administered by doctor.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a current secret level clearance and be able to maintain it.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, MH-60S or AV-8B aircraft strongly preferred.
  • May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
