Aircraft Mechanic I
Job Summary
MAJOR DUTIES: Aircraft Production -
- Perform a selected range of maintenance, repair, and/or modification of rotary wing aircraft, their major assemblies, subassemblies, components, and related systems.
- Removes, replaces, repairs and functionally checks items such as main rotors, gear boxes, engine parts and accessories, drive shafts, fuel cells, cowlings, hoses, tubing, and fuselage sections, and/or components of similar nature.
- Accomplishes modifications and technical order changes involving removal of old and the installation of new parts, components, and assemblies.
- Maintains specified tolerances in all installation and modification tasks, including adjustment of engine fuel controls and flight control rigging.
- Works under specific instructional guidance of higher-grade mechanic in accomplishment of some of the more difficult aspects of air-craft repair.
- Accomplishes minor repairs to a variety of aircraft parts, components, subassemblies and systems.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, stands, power tools, and precision measuring de-ices in accomplishing assigned tasks.
- Working independently or in conjunction with other workers, disassembles systems from the aircraft to the point necessary for accessibility for repair.
- As required, instructs military personnel in all phases of incumbents assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Work is accomplished in conjunction with close supervision or under direct guidance of higher graded mechanic.
- Applies knowledge of proper methods, procedures, and techniques required in the removal, replacement, minor repair, and installation of parts and assemblies pertaining to various aircraft systems.
RESPONSIBILITY:
- Receives oral or written instructions from supervisor or higher graded mechanic, who outlines priority of work to be performed.
- Receives detailed instruction or guidance on new or unusual procedures.
- As skill progresses, performs selected duties without immediate supervision.
- All work is subject to spot-check in progress; completed work is reviewed
- for compliance with instructions and accept-able trade practices.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Required to climb, bend, stoop, and work in strained cramped positions.
- Subject to prolonged standing, walking, and kneeling and must be physically fit to perform daily duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperature and humidity
- extremes.
- Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present.
- Exposure to cuts, burns, shock, strains and broken bones exist.
Minimum Requirements
- Ability to use hand and power tools and test equipment.
- Requires 3 prior years experience at a journeyman level.
- Must have knowledge of disassembly, cleaning, reworking, repairing, reassembling and modifying aircraft.
- Must also be able to understand technical data.
- Must have a current drivers license.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be able to work rotating shifts.
