Job Description

  • Must have technical knowledge to repair, maintain, modify and overhaul various major aircraft operating systems.
  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components
  • Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions
  • Applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation
  • Applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufactures’ manuals.
  • Incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
  • Interface with USFS personnel in a cooperative manner;
  • Follow all federal facility established policies and procedures.
  • Perform proper techniques, methods of operation, and safety practices for aircraft and equipment used.
  • Work with the Lead Mechanic and USFS employees to resolve problems.
  • Review aircraft status sheet to accomplish aircraft maintenance IAW the aircraft’s maintenance program and applicable technical publications.
  • Perform other duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years direct applicable or equivalent aircraft experience.​
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the field consistent with the requirements set forth in individual task orders
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license and ability to operate vehicles on military installations.
  • 14 CFR 65 Certificated Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic and have held that certificate for a minimum of 3 years;
  • Documented experience and/or training in Pratt & Whitney (Canada) PT6A Engine
  • Documented training and/or experience showing the ability to rig, function test, and troubleshoot general aviation small aircraft systems.
  • Support documentation in the form of training certificates and On the Job Training (OJT) records or related records acceptable to the government.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
  • Basic Aircraft Mechanics shall be capable of satisfactorily performing all maintenance assigned including:
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts, requires broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair,.
  • Must have basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
  • Requires working knowledge of technical publications.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable position.
  • Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices.

Travel

  • As required by Task Order Performance Work Statement.
