This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.<br><br>We are seeking a highly talented and motivated Associate Director level structural biologist to join the Structural and Biophysical Chemistry group (SBC) at NIBR in Emeryville. We are a multidisciplinary team with expertise in X-ray crystallography, Cryo EM, NMR, and biophysics. Our team supports local efforts and collaborates with scientists across NIBR at the frontiers of chemical biology, data sciences, and disease biology to identify opportunities for next generation therapeutics. Our goal is to identify and develop small molecules for multiple therapeutic areas including cardiovascular, immunology, neuroscience, solid tumors, hematology, and global health. <br><br>The Associate Director will be an integral member of structure-based drug discovery teams, providing leadership and expertise to advance early drug discovery efforts, design and conduct innovative experiments to solve key scientific questions, communicate effectively and efficiently in team meetings, and collaboratively work with other scientists to develop innovative medicines. This role will impact our local discovery efforts and the global discovery portfolio through both leadership and bench-level contributions. <br><br>Key responsibilities:<br>•Independently design, develop, and implement crystallographic and other structural biology techniques to support the Structure-based Drug Discovery efforts at Novartis. Analyze interpret and communicate results to the project teams <br>•Collaborate with members of the Molecular Discovery, CADD, and Medicinal Chemistry groups to enable successful SBDD. Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams globally to optimally drive the NIBR portfolio<br>•Conceptualize, establish, and lead research projects to completion, including long-range project/program goals<br>•Identify innovations in structural methods for drug discovery. Apply additional methods (e.g., biochemical, biophysical, or other analytical method) for early-stage discovery programs.<br>•Provide feedback on issues of department strategy, management, and staff performance <br>•Mentor/coach direct reports and other members of the SBC group in best practices and career development<br>•Be part of the local and global NIBR community by supporting our Curious, Inspired and Unbossed culture at Novartis<br><br>The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $166,400 and $249,600 however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
