About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

This position is a supervisory role in the Environmental group responsible for leading and coordinating environmental efforts to maintain the compliance of environmental regulatory responsibilities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with regulatory agencies to ensure coordination of permitting and compliance with applicable regulations across all facilities.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and lead compliance for FirstEnergy facilities including transmission, generation, and operating companies.
  • Update and maintain FirstEnergy’s Environmental Compliance Program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements involving coal combustion residuals, air emissions and all waste streams.
  • Manage landfill resources including air space development, landfill avoidance (beneficial use and/or harvesting), permitting, including legacy sites.
  • Ensure timely submittal of all permits and required regulatory reporting.
  • Continually seek opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction and broaden/deepen. relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Communicate complex issues with various internal and external groups to find appropriate compliance and permitting solutions.
  • Actively participate and manage team members on industry working groups and forums
  • Execute the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis by discussing development opportunities, performance issues, succession planning and other potential changes.
  • Manage employees’ performance to achieve established objectives.
  • Set priorities and goals for the team to ensure task completion; coordinate work activities with other supervisors and/or managers.
  • Lead, educate, and direct others to improve team effectiveness and communicate results/recommendations to varying audiences.
  • Lead/support other environmental initiatives within the organization.
  • Support other activities as needed.

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related discipline preferred with a minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience. Relevant experience must include experience working with electric utilities, and federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience related to mitigating environmental risk and pursuing continuous improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy delivery, power generation, and other facilities, including retired assets.
  • Candidate should have demonstrated ability to develop programs that communicate environmental information to project managers relative to regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facilities needs and how to help facilities (including retired) succeed with maintenance, operations, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience leading initiatives and projects related to permitting, compliance, reporting, and program development.
  • Candidate must be able to manage and lead subject matter experts in providing support across multiple business units, and support organizations outside of their supervisory control.
  • Candidate must have experience working with regulatory agencies to achieve alignment with permitting expectations.
  • Able to manage both internal and external contracted resources.
  • In-depth knowledge of information systems such as Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word.
  • Ability to adapt communication skills and convey regulatory compliance to all audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and FirstEnergy.
  • Ability to set and communicate clear expectations, priorities, and measures of success.
