Job Description
The Future Talent Program features Cooperative (Co-op) education that lasts up to 6 months and will include one or more projects. These opportunities in our Research & Development Division can provide you with great development and a chance to see if we are the right company for your long-term goals.
Job description
We are seeking a 6-month Co-op to join our Protein and Structural Chemistry group in the Computational and Structural Chemistry (CSC) department. Our group utilizes multidisciplinary approaches to design, express, purify, and characterize protein reagents in support of structure elucidation efforts that advance our drug discovery pipeline and ultimately help improve the lives of patients.
The Co-op will have the opportunity to work in a cell culture lab supporting structural biology. They will have the chance to learn about early-stage drug discovery from a structural perspective and master the laboratory skills needed to deliver high quality protein reagents to support therapeutic research programs. Techniques include cell culture, protein expression, and protein characterization by flow cytometry, western blotting, and microscopy. The co-op may also gain exposure to other techniques including protein purification, characterization (FPLC, affinity/ion exchange/gel filtration, gels, analytical SEC, DSF, LC/MS) and crystallization. Co-op will also participate in departmental and project team meetings to provide a broad perspective on the drug development process in the pharmaceutical industry. Co-ops will be exposed to drug discovery research and gain perspective on the practical considerations that drive a research program. In addition, Co-ops will have opportunities to present results of their research in both oral and written formats.
The Co-op will be responsible for accurate electronic notebook recording, use of biosafety cabinets and laboratory equipment for cell line characterization, and safe lab practices.
