Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Nuclear Safety Manager to join our Engineering team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will provide daily leadership and management support to nuclear safety personnel. Work with the WIPP management team to support the WIPP mission by providing resources to support document/procedure preparation and reviews, Unreviewed Safety Question determinations, hazard and accident analyses, dose consequence assessments and preparation of documentation to support the development the WIPP Documented Safety Analysis and Technical Safety Requirement documents. Provide leadership in nuclear safety, issues management, and meeting customer commitments. Develop and maintain organizational dynamics to foster technical excellence in engineering and superior communication between cross functional areas. Develop budget and resource strategies to meet the mission requirements. Perform managerial functions including vacation and timecard approvals, technical document review and approvals, and other activities as directed by the Engineering Department Manager. This position requires interaction and coordination with various site organizations, e.g., Engineering, Work Control, Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Packaging and Transportation, and Regulatory Environmental Services. The candidate will also address compliance issues from internal and external sources, overview internal and external reviews of nuclear safety programs; following corrective actions through completion or resolution, and assuring auditable documentation is maintained.

NWP Exempt Salary Grade (36 – 39)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline plus five (5) years of engineering related experience at a nuclear facility is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given for experience in the area of nuclear safety related activities such as hazard analysis, unreviewed safety question reviews, TSR control selection, and safety basis preparation or safety basis implementation.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
