As Engineering Manager of DevOps for the Verizon Enterprise Security group, you’ll oversee a team of devops engineers who are working in the cybersecurity space. You’ll lead and support the team in their ongoing work improving the Network Detection and Response (NDR) security platform. You’ll also help the team continue to integrate into the broader Verizon Business Group’s ecosystem of security products. We’re looking for someone with strong leadership abilities that can guide the development of a mixed team of engineers with varying levels of experience but who can also dive in deep and can solve thorny technical challenges.

  • Use influence to improve the reliability, scalability, operability and cost effectiveness of our ecosystem of services, working with various stakeholders to prioritize these needs against other business priorities.
  • Providing leadership in best practices for agile software delivery and DevOps for a group of 5 devops engineers.
  • Lead the improvement of the reliability and on-call of production stability and on-call rotations.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to triage production-impacting events and see to their resolution.
  • Solve problems and look for ways to improve all areas of NDR engineering while also balancing the challenges of operating a growing business at scale.
  • Researching, evaluating new features and technologies and translating business objectives and strategies into viable implementation plans.
  • Working closely with product leadership to identify and set product & development strategy.
  • Working with other technical leaders in the Verizon Enterprise Security group to look for opportunities to leverage synergies.
  • Providing direction/guidance to enhance the SaaS platform and integrate with other internal platforms
  • Coaching and mentoring team members and complete all performance agreement/evaluation/management activities.
  • Develops team members by providing opportunities for growth and coaching and mentorship.
  • Works with team members on performance management and career planning.
  • Identifies opportunities for team members to succeed in achieving their personal goals within the framework of the business.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of workexperience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in the DevOps space and two or more years of leadership/management/team lead experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Proven organizational and interpersonal skills, plus proven relationship building abilities.
  • Ability to facilitate collaborative resolution of differences with a “win-win” approach.
  • Software engineering and architecture understanding.
  • Problem solving and flexible and adaptable mindset.
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn and try new things.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code concepts, as well as tooling such as Terraform, Pulumi, Cloud Formation or Helm.
  • Broad experience with the AWS cloud.
  • Experience with the Linux operating system.
  • Incident response and incident management experience.
  • Strong problem solving capabilities.
  • Strong coding skills in any development language.
  • Knowledge of any of our existing languages. (Python, Go, Scala, Nodejs, Rust)
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Spinnaker, AMIs, and immutable infrastructure.
  • Experience with any of the following would be a strong plus: Cassandra, Solr, Kafka, the JVM.
  • Experience in the cybersecurity industry.
