Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mining and Ground Control Manager to join our Operations team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance for the daily operations in the Underground that will ensure personnel safety. This includes mining activities, ground control and bulkhead construction. Possess the knowledge to monitor and ensure compliance with DOE Orders, Hazardous Waste Facility Permit, MSHA and Technical Safety Requirements. Code of Federal Regulations 29 and 30. Procedural requirements and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations. Must be able to complete and maintain training qualifications for wearing a respirator in a radiologically contaminated area. Possess the skills to direct and maintain Underground equipment training and qualifications to ensure qualified personnel are available for job assignments. Must have the leadership skills that will embrace solid Core Values to allow open communications and team building. Be open and available to support all WIPP Operations as needed. Possess the skills to communicate and work electronically on a daily basis for status updates and shift turnovers. Must be able to integrate the work control process into the daily activities that will address job assignments and future projects. This position will be required to interface with all working groups at the WIPP Site. This position will also be responsible for recognizing and discussing the needs of the facility, supporting the facility’s priorities and be pro-active for continuous improvement. The candidate will also have positive Leadership and Management skills.

NWP Exempt Salary Grade (31 – 32)


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of related experience, or
  • Associate’s degree plus nine (9) years of related experience, or
  • High School Diploma or GED plus thirteen (13) years of related experience is required.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of underground mining systems, equipment, processes, and practices.
  • Must be able to become qualified to work underground.
  • Will be required to complete and maintain training and qualifications for respirator use, wear a respirator and work in radiologically contaminated areas.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory and/or management experience is preferred.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
