About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

Working in Regulated Settlements provides an opportunity to learn about the PJM energy and capacity market as well as how retail shopping impacts utility operations. In this role, the selected candidate will interact with PJM and third party suppliers; learn how wholesale settlement functions influence activity at PJM; and understand how certain changes in federal and state regulations impact our Company. Regulated Settlements interacts routinely with team members from Regulated Commodity Sourcing, FERC & RTO Technical Support, RTO Energy Transactions, Transmission Metering, and Rates and Regulatory Affairs. We also participate as members of the PJM Market Settlements and PJM Demand Response Subcommittees.

The position reports to the Manager, Regulated Settlements and this position can be sited anywhere in the FE service territory with occasional travel to the General Office in Akron, Ohio.

Responsibilities include:

  • Execute daily processes that organize large amounts of data into meaningful reports to internal/external customers of FirstEnergy. This can involve using queries to access and pull data from databases, using SQL code to limit data and writing limited VBA code to organize data.
  • Process and validate key data from various sources used to support weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Assisting with key projects and implementing improvement initiatives related to processing and analyzing customer energy data and resolving data discrepancies.
  • Understanding concepts related to operating in Regional Transmission Organizations and electric industry principles such as PJM energy and capacity markets, demand response, energy efficiency, customer choice and customer electric use patterns.
  • Coordinating and participating in meetings with various internal departments regarding metering and supplier data information.
  • Keeping sensitive customer information secured
  • Demonstrating commitment to the Company’s Diversity and Inclusion principles and all aspects of safety
  • Providing a high level of customer service and responsiveness while building relationships and credibility across organization
  • Conducting business specific research, interpreting results, and making recommendations.
  • Consistently anticipate and deliver against a defined action plan

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, Information Technologies, Engineering or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of releated experience required. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of related experience required. Related experience may include working with large data sets, performing business reporting, and navigating through various Microsoft applications.
  • Applied knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word.
  • Experience displaying an attention to detail.
  • Desire to work on assignments with firm daily, monthly, and annual timelines.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and develop existing relationships.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of basic researching techniques.
  • Understand best practices and techniques for addressing customer concerns.
  • Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
