About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This position will be classified as Mobile with primary work location as home, but may work at or visit a facility, based on business need. Preferred locations are Akron, Ohio or Greensburg, PA.

This position provides analyst support for energy efficiency and peak demand reduction activities for the Energy Efficiency department to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements and Company objectives across all FirstEnergy operating companies. This position will report to the Manager of Compliance and Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing regulatory filings, developing and providing industry intelligence on energy efficiency and demand response programs, technologies or practices, developing, analyzing or updating energy efficiency and demand response initiatives, performing research and analysis of energy efficiency and demand response programs and measures including impacts, costs and cost-effectiveness assessments.
  • Developing and promoting positions and strategies in various stakeholder settings, including supporting or leading the Company’s participation in designated stakeholder engagement initiatives, working groups, and peer utility coordination. This position will interact with regulatory agencies, customer group representatives, other industry and peer utility personnel, internal departments, and senior management personnel.
  • Reviewing and analyzing regulatory or legislative changes, other filings or industry information related to energy efficiency and demand response, and providing assessments and recommendations to inform policies, positions and strategies.
  • Participating in working groups in the development of energy efficiency and demand response plans and programs to achieve the legislated or regulated conservation and peak demand reduction targets and other Company objectives.
  • Developing and providing industry intelligence on emerging, best practice and new technologies through research, participation in industry events, benchmarking and other analysis to improve program portfolios and support program development and implementation activities to ensure compliance. Includes developing summaries, comparisons, communications and recommendations. This position will also serve as an analytical resource within the Energy Efficiency department.
  • Developing and providing substantiation for the Companies’ positions through research, studies, benchmarking, participation in industry activities and through industry knowledge.
  • Communicating to and supporting program implementation to inform energy efficiency program planning, align implementation activities, and to support achievement of requirements.
  • Driving energy efficiency and demand response process synergies and continuous improvement, improving process effectiveness, and making significant contributions to the achievement of goals and objectives.

An employee hired at the Senior Business Analyst level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Senior Business Analyst level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above plus:

  • Integrating strategic concepts into business unit activities; provide strategic direction across department, leading strategically in a diversity of projects, processes and programs, strategizing the development of programs, policies and positions
  • Championing process and continuous improvement activities across the business unit
  • Developing and managing multifaceted, complex analysis, projects and processes
  • Developing high-level solutions for complex assignments, serving as a "thought leader" and analytical resource for less tenured employees, serving as a mentor and role model to others

Qualifications at the Adv Business Analyst level include:

  • Four year degree in a related discipline, with a minimum 10 years professional (exempt) work experience required.
    • In lieu of a degree, 13 years of professional (exempt), direct, related experience will be required. An advanced degree or professional certification is preferred. The experience must be at a professional (exempt) level which also includes data reporting, analysis, costing and recommendations, along with a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
  • Solid computer skills with excellent competency in Microsoft Office products (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). SAP experience a plus.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency, demand response and load management strategies, products and technologies, customer electricity usage patterns, rate pricing structures, and state regulatory policies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on understandable and clear writing and presentation skills. Ability to effectively present complex subject matter.
  • Possesses ability to handle multiple assignments to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines. Must be capable of driving projects and tasks to completion.
  • Ability to lead, plan, and organize multiple initiatives with varying delivery timelines. Excellent time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to learn, analyze and interpret complex information.
  • Possesses strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrates a questioning attitude and desire to continue to learn and produce results.
  • Able to work both independently and in team environments.
  • Develops effective working relationships and credibility with other departments and employees and interacts professionally within all levels of the organization.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer satisfaction.

  • Possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the service territory periodically, and willing to work extra and/or irregular hours during unusual circumstances.

Qualifications at the Senior Business Analyst level include all of the above plus:

  • Four-year degree in a related discipline, with a minimum 13 years professional (exempt) work experience required.
  • Viewed as an expert in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other business-unit specific applications.
  • Possesses superior analytical abilities, demonstrates prior experience managing multiple projects/activities simultaneously, integrating corporate strategic concepts, and presenting to senior management.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to understand and formally present complex subject matter to all levels of management.
  • Must be able to manage multiple and changing priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment ensuring aggressive deadlines are met.
  • Ability to lead others and coach others in effective decision making.
