Job Summary

The Plant Engineering organization is responsible for the technical activities relating to operations and maintenance of plant equipment during Construction, Commissioning, and Operations of the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP). The Software Specialist Business Analyst is responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of software applications and system interfaces through the application of software quality principles. The Software Specialist Business Analyst works with management, consultants, developers, and users to capture and prioritize software/system requirements and enhancements. The Software Specialist Business Analyst supports the computing needs of the Plant Operations organization.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

Primary duties consist of translating customer needs into actionable business rules and system requirements and ensuring deliverables are achieved in a timely manner. Typically, this person will be assigned to small projects or a phase of a larger project and carries out routine or semi-routine tasks. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.

  • Interface with customers to create specifications and designs for new or existing complex software application programs and reports according to project software standards and conventions.
  • Perform work with minimal supervision.
  • Resolve business or engineering problems through the design and implementation of software applications on automated systems.
  • Author software project plans, requirements, design, test plans, and test reports, and review the work of others.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with customers to integrate and format data sources for consolidation.
  • Support the Waste Treatment Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.
  • Provide training to customers on new systems/tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

Amentum has joined with Bechtel to create an LLC, known as the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) to construct, start-up and commission the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.


Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Business or related field, or experience in the Information Technology field.

Experience: 2 - 4 years of experience programming web-based software applications and designing/managing Oracle databases. Technical writing skills required. Familiarity with applying software quality engineering principles for the management, design, and testing of software. Programming experience with asp.net; Visual Basic, C++, and/or C#; MS Access, Oracle, and/or MS SQL Server database querying required.

Knowledge of software quality engineering principles for the management, design, and testing of software desired, but not required.

Programming experience with asp.net, Visual Studio, C++, and or C#, MS Access, Oracle, and/or MS SQL Server database querying desired, but not required.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
