The Director, Business Strategy and Operations Lead, R&ED PM will:

  • Lead efficient execution of critical R&ED PM business processes (e.g., assimilation, QC and publishing of the monthly R&ED project status, timeline and risk report, DPT goal tracking and R&ED PM Resource Modeling).
  • Work with R&ED PM leadership and Late Development PM leadership to plan and execute cross-PM initiatives and critical meetings
  • Work in partnership with the R&ED Cross-Portfolio Strategy Implementation (CPSI) group to coordinate and align on R&ED PM processes and outputs required to support R&ED business needs.
  • Facilitate RDSP and cross-R&ED business process initiatives, coordinate discussions and outputs from initiative teams and working groups for presentation to management.
  • Represent R&ED PM as a key contributor to business process related RDSP strategic initiatives, partnering closely with other RDSP functions e.g., Strategy Implementation and Operational Excellence (SIOE), and R&D Capabilities.
  • As a member of the Project Management Center of Excellence, coordinate with Late Development PM Strategy & Operations Lead and Head of Project Planning to monitor the quality of the R&D portfolio data and maintain alignment of the portfolio with the fundamental project management best practices, standards and definitions
  • Work with business capabilities groups in RDSP (SIOE and R&D capabilities), Business Insights and Analytics (BI&A) and finance to support strategic planning and financial processes with cross-functional business partners (e.g., R&ED strategic planning process, evergreen financial planning and change control, semi-annual financial projections, annual budgeting, etc.).
  • Assist in development of presentations and reports for RDSP senior management relating to annual strategic planning, RDSP and PM town halls, as well as on-going business and pipeline updates.
  • Coordinate PM Leadership Team Mtgs, serving as a resource to the PM community to identify opportunities for improved ways of working and support of PM training.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in scientific discipline or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in pharmaceutical / biotech industry with experience and understanding of drug development project and portfolio management, business planning, operations, and analytics. Early Development experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritizing as needed, with great attention to the detail. Should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering results.
  • This is a role for a team player with excellent influencing and negotiating experience and skills required to be successful in a matrix environment. Must be able to interact with R&ED leaders, effectively balancing various R&ED business needs and working with the R&ED PM group to deliver the necessary outputs.
  • Capable of bringing structure to vaguely defined problems while using creative yet pragmatic problem-solving approaches and execution management.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships, lead large/complex initiatives, and work across functions, divisions, diverse business backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to reflect key messages concisely and accurately to a variety of audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated strength in assessing business-critical needs, developing business strategy, translating strategy into operating models and actionable plans, managing program execution, and delivering measurable business value.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated maturity and ability to think on feet. Solid organizational skills and ability to work independently with limited direction are key.
  • May mentor/coach other strategy leads within PM and/or other areas in RDSP.
