This Associate Director, Marketing Business Development is responsible for coordinating strategic community engagement and partnerships that align with the state’s desired goals and positively impact the members we seek to serve. Specifically, this leader will build a strategy around each Accountable Community of Health (ACH), working very closely with key providers and Community/Faith Based Organizations (C/FBO’s) to engage and support their efforts to improve community health. The Associate Director will also directly coordinate with the provider outreach team to triage and hand over resolution of provider issues.

The Associate Director of Marketing Business Development will focus on business development efforts by developing and implementing actionable strategies to engage community members, CBOs, and Providers in Washington. This individual would identify key influencers and develop outreach and engagement plans with the goal of creating on the ground coalitions and partnerships that will advance our reputation within and enhance our learnings from the communities we seek to serve.

This individual would come to the position with substantive experience in working with diverse low-income communities and developing targeted community coalitions/partnerships with the aim of improving population specific health challenges within those respective communities. This individual would have experience taking policy positions/analysis and translating it to the “what is the impact on the Medicaid beneficiary” level and articulating how we can collectively work together with that aim in mind.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist Regional Director of Growth (RDG) in developing market-specific advocacy plans to support growth and business objectives
  • Develop and implement provider engagement strategies (including Field-based approaches and face to face visits Providers) in partnership with Network, supporting issue resolution with provider advocates and making UHC the insurer of choice for UHC
  • Manage local Medicaid field-based outreach teams and work directly with M&R regional sales leaders to leverage DSNP Outreach strategies and teams across segments
  • Work collaboratively with the Regional Growth team to support and conduct market assessment and engagement opportunities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the local market and competitive landscape
  • Partner with Solution Team, Policy, Marketing, and key stakeholders across the organization to identify, prioritize and build solutions required for our Washington Medicaid pursuit.
  • Elevate awareness and ensure perspectives and concerns raised by external organizations are appropriately reflected in the market entry plan.
  • Actively develop, maintain, and grow productive relationships with key, local entities, and stakeholder groups to address community health issues within the Medicaid
  • Lead in-market implementation of all market engagement initiatives and events
  • Engage market organizations and groups to achieve greater collective impact of UnitedHealthcare’s mission and efforts to develop and support community health partnerships
  • Support the design and implementation of pilot projects and investments that support innovative programming and align with the state’s priority area
  • Develop strategies and tactical plans to support consumer/member innovation and gain strategic insight into the needs, expectations, and concerns of members
  • Make recommendations to leadership regarding funding for market engagement efforts, special projects, and subsequently, manage the end-to-end grant process for the local grantee
  • Represent UnitedHealthcare at association meetings, conferences, forums, coalition meetings, workgroups, and steering committees
  • Liaison to Marketing and Communications teams to ensure maximum visibility and exposure within the State and to specific designees (e.g., State legislators and decision makers, consumers, advocates, and CBOs/FBOs and providers)
  • Liaison to all other UHG segments including E&I, M&R, Optum, and enterprise-wide support divisions
  • Establish appropriate collaboration meetings on strategies that align business segments and promote unified messaging and approaches to serving the community
  • Marrket engagement, community outreach and marketing within the state that will differentiate UHC from competitors ensuring a successful RFP submissionWork with the Solutioning and Proposal teams to foster collaboration and ensure all market engagement activities are written into the RFP that will be submitted to the state
  • Serve as strategic advisor to Regional Growth leadership
  • Input and track all activities into SalesForce, ensuring accuracy for reporting
  • Maintain relevant work and critical documents on SharePoint sites, including regular reporting of activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6+ years of Healthcare, Medicaid and/or Medicare sales experience with extensive knowledge of Washington market
  • 5+ years people management experience
  • 2+ years of community outreach experience developing and organizing marketing or community outreach events
  • Experience working effectively in a highly matrix organization
  • Proficiency in MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Travel up to 50% of time within this WA market and 10% travel outside of WA
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance
  • Live within commutable distance to Spokane, WA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Project management experience to include budget management
  • Experience managing employees to drive results
  • Experience developing marketing/community outreach strategies and tactile plans
  • Experience managing multiple projects/tasks
  • Ability to work outside core business hours, including evenings and weekends, per business needs
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Established professional relationships with Providers, CBO’s, faith-based organizations (FBO’s), and local Department of Health and Human Services
