What you’ll be doing...

The Associate Director for Digital for VBG will be responsible for leading the Software Development functions, for all digital VBG applications. This individual will have very strong technical expertise on middleware technologies and Database technologies. This position should have good experience running high-volume production operations to support business critical applications.

In addition, the position will deliver on GTS digital priorities in an efficient, quick and secure way, by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, adopting best practices, and establishing a healthy foundation with world-class capabilities and a culture of continuous learning. This leader will work with external industry leaders to understand the Software Development practices for running a Digital/Product company and implement the appropriate Technology tools and solutions in VBG GTS. The position should lead the digital apps software development team and implement best in class development practices that will enhance the features and functionalities of applications. This will include support of business applications and services as they relate to our business partners and customers. The person needs to be ultra-focused and a strong leader to help execute on the vision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead strategy and development of innovative solutions for the VBG Small and Medium business Sales Digital apps.
  • Distribute workload and development responsibilities to ensure timely completion and avoid impact to existing services.
  • Manage employee performance in a consistent and timely fashion per company policy and practice.
  • Work with internal organizations to develop, design, size, and adjust data flow models to ensure applications meet availability, performance, capacity, and security requirements and guidelines.
  • Manage Capital and Expense budgets to plan.
  • Drive technology, operational and cost innovation within the team and with broader stakeholders.
  • Understand and interpret business strategy, including design, to improve applications in collaboration with other business units.
  • Ensure new applications and infrastructure components adhere to defined architectural requirements and standards - guide the evolution of new technologies to support the requirements of new systems and business initiatives.
  • Provide direction and effectively manage vendors.
  • Provide input on product road maps and KPI's.
  • Provide leadership for continuous process improvement.
  • Ensure that Security is table stakes.
  • Plan, divide and direct work among leads/team members. Mainly involved in detailed design and development tasks for test bed preparation, and further enhancement of test scripts for various VBG applications with respect to software quality and its performance, using a mix of traditional and DevOps oriented tools.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Service and Operations.
  • Experience in implementing test automation, performance testing, and also familiar with the latest emerging testing technologies
  • Experience in IT Security and compliance, operations and network services, and application development.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.
  • Ten or more years of IT experience networking, applications, infrastructure, or database architectures.
  • Leadership of a large, global, complex technology-based organization.
  • Effectively managing the employee and consultant headcount, staying within budget.
  • Innovative application of data-driven and metric-driven performance management to lower cost and drive efficiency.
  • Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Service and Operations.
  • Experience working with version control systems (e.g., GIT, subversion, mercurial).
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines in a distributed environment.
  • Experience working with globally diverse teams and working with Vendors.
  • Experience with software packaging tools, security vulnerability tools (SonarQube, Fortify, BlackDuck, SysDig), code coverage analytical tools and monitoring tools.
  • Experience in implementing test automation, performance testing, and also familiar with the latest emerging testing technologies.
  • Experience in IT Security and compliance, operations and network services, and application development.
  • Experience Cloud and Container platform Strategies, Design, Architecture, and Migration.
  • The ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment and adapt to changes.
  • Experience leading complex projects by bringing together the right perspectives, identifying roadblocks, and integrating feedback from clients and team members.
  • The ability to perform analytics on previous incidents and usage patterns to better predict issues and take proactive actions.
  • Building and driving adoption for greater self-healing and resiliency patterns.
  • Willingness to travel.
