Director
The Kean University Child Care and Development Center is a full day, Reggio Emilia inspired, laboratory demonstration school affiliated with the College of Education. The Center serves children ages 2.5-5 (before Kindergarten) of faculty, staff, students and the community during the day and children 2.5 – 12 in the evening (M-Th).
Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education, the Director (Director 4) organizes, plans and directs the Center’s curriculum, activities and operations, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws governing child care. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing all child care center operations; supervising staff; designing professional development for teachers; managing financial affairs; overseeing physical facilities; communicating with parents; collaborating with faculty in the College of Education; and performing related work as required. This position requires a flexible schedule including early morning, evening and weekend hours and some travel.
Qualifications: Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and two years of professional experience with classroom instruction in an early childhood setting is required. Five years of experience in administration and supervision of early childhood centers is preferred. Possession of a valid New Jersey Teacher's Certificate of Pre-School through 3rd Grade issued by the New Jersey Department of Education is also preferred. Candidate must have effective and strong oral and written communication skills.
The candidate must successfully complete background screening checks to meet university and State licensure requirements at the time of hire. In addition, this position also has physical requirements. These include: the ability to move, stand, sit, bend and kneel for short and long periods of time, hand dexterity and the ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds; the ability to assume postures to allow physical and visual eye contact with children, ensure children’s health and safety and engage in physical activities with children; the ability to work indoors and outdoors; and the ability to successfully complete subsequent background checks per licensing requirements.
