Role overview

Leidos is currently seeking a Business Development Manager aligned to our Civil Division covering Transport, as part of the Central Government and Transport Portfolio.

You will work with a team of BD professionals and report to the Business Development Director for Civil, and also work closely with the Civil Portfolio Director for Central Government and Transport.

As part of the Leidos Business Development Team, the successful candidate will be capable of leading and executing significant new business campaigns in the UK Transport market including Department for Transport, its agencies and public bodies.

Operating effectively within a multi-functional team, you will be an effective leader and communicator and have a background in/understanding of UK Government and Transport, current strategy and the challenges and pressures they are dealing with.

The role you will play:

  • Plan and lead our BD activities to achieve our annual awards (signings) targets in this strategic area of the UK business

  • Responsible for development of the pipeline of opportunities to support the next 3 years business growth ambition which aligns to the UK strategy.

  • You will develop and maintain senior relationships with the major target clients positioning Leidos as a strategic potential supplier.

  • You will contribute to Leidos bid teams by providing the voice of the client.

  • Identify, influence and qualify the opportunities that best match Leidos strengths and provide optimum outcomes for the client and us.

  • You will work with our marketing team to develop innovative campaigns to bring Leidos global capabilities to the UK market.

  • You will be capable of leading and executing significant new business campaigns in the UK Transport (Road, Air, Rail and Maritime) market. Operating effectively within a multi-functional team, you will be an effective leader and communicator and have a background in/understanding of Transport clients, the market place and their requirements.

  • Work with US colleagues to identify appropriate technologies suitable for the UK market.

Skills Required

The Successful Candidate will have:

  • A track record of successfully driving business growth year on year and hitting targets

  • Extensive knowledge of Transport business development, contract awards, current procurement trends and customer buying behaviours

  • Proven experience of collaboratively creating compelling winning bids

  • Experience and success in SI / ITO / IT Services and BD sales into central government

  • Extensive knowledge of government business development (including known senior clients in central government departments), contract awards, current acquisition trends and customer buying behaviours

  • Recent notable wins to your name with TCV circa £10-£50m

  • Excellent inter-personal, presentation and verbal skills and an experienced negotiator

  • Tenacity and energy to maintain the momentum of multiple and concurrent campaigns across the Division;

  • Experience being a team leader, adept at developing, coaching and motivating a bid team to success

  • Proven ability to qualify opportunities that are a good fit for Leidos UK capability and put us in a differentiated position

  • Client and Industry stakeholder engagement essential.
