The Patient Specific Solutions team provides patient-specific devices to those with complex clinical cases, such as oncology cases, where no other device exists on the market to treat their condition. These are provided under the prescription of the overseeing physician in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations for single patient use. As an associate manager on the Patient Specific Solutions team, you will supervise a team that performs implant and instrument design work for individual cases. You will be required to liaise with customers including, but not limited to, surgeons, distributors, and the sales force, to educate and answer questions on the design process and design solutions for patient-specific orthopaedic devices. You will lead the team to deliver cases, reduce lead time, and accommodate increasing volume. You will lead projects to grow the process and technical capabilities to execute the strategic vision of the team.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Supervise a project team within a defined product category.
Model and detail implant and instrumentation designs utilizing appropriate design software (i.e., PRO E).
Establish and maintain key relationships within the R&D group as well as cross functional groups and external industry contacts.
Direct and manage the workflow of Engineers within the scope of assigned projects; ensure understanding and application of best practices, industry trends and skill development.
Interface with clinical advisors to gather input for design and evaluation of new products.
Utilize/manage the Design Controls (New Product Development Plan or Specialty Instruments/ Special Orthopaedic Solutions product development process); oversee teams to ensure project plans adhere to agreed upon timelines and are within scope of the NPDP guidelines.
Develop and review technical reports.
Lead and participate in cross functional design teams to develop new products; address design issues/maintenance of existing products.
Requirements:
6+ years of experience
Preferred product design experience in the medical device or a regulated / manufacturing industry
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Biomedical or Mechanical preferred
Demonstrated ability to lead complex product development initiatives from concept through release
Demonstrated ability to apply design controls within a regulated industry
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage large, complex projects
Demonstrated ability to achieve work objectives both independently and as a leader/mentor of a work team
Demonstrated ability to apply parametric CAD design package such as Pro E or equivalent
Demonstrated ability to apply and interpret GD&T
Demonstrated understanding of GMP’s and various manufacturing processes
