The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and preparing business development materials, interfacing with customers, building business cases and sourcing new products, companies, technologies, and intellectual property that meet the business unit’s strategic initiatives. They will also serve as a liaison to the marketing department to ensure alignment on business cases and marketing strategy. Supporting business development and preparation of materials will include execution of due diligence, strategic rationale and management of key relationships with the potential strategic partner. This Manager will work with internal and external groups such as Instruments Business Development, sales, marketing, engineering, regulatory, operations, and market insights to accomplish the required scope of work to justify the acquisition. In addition to their business development responsibilities, this individual will be responsible for developing market assessments, building strategies, and roadmaps for organic and inorganic NPD. They will need to work in conjunction with other Portfolio Managers to develop the make vs. buy decision and help support any portfolio manager needs, when necessary.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Work with marketing and marketing leadership to develop strategic rationale for strategic partnerships, projects, acquisitions, and other business development opportunities
Build out strategy and roadmap for adjacent segments and new product offerings for the business
Support any organic projects that could utilize Business Development as a means for growth
Identify companies, products, technologies, and intellectual property that fits the strategic business focus, organic pipeline, and inorganic opportunity roadmap
Contact, develop, and maintain relationships with targets for partnership
Preparation of materials to support business development opportunities. Materials will be created in a multitude of MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, etc.)
Schedule, coordinate, and lead target reviews with Surgical and Instruments leaderships
Execute field due diligence and voice of the customer through sales channels and key opinion leaders
Partner with Market Insights and third party market research companies to execute primary and secondary research, surveys, and VOC/VOS
Partner with Instruments Business Development, Sales, Marketing, R&D, Regulatory, and OUS business partners to identify viable acquisition opportunities
Support the creation, communication, and execution of business unit Business Development Strategy
Develop global market segment assessments and identify opportunities with OUS partners
Responsible for development of processes related to conducting due diligence and BD
Ensure BD knowledge is scalable and best practices are shared across Division or BU
Key participant in business unit Product and Financial roadmap creation and communication
Support development of projected expense budgets
Submits periodic reports on areas of responsibility
Minimum Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. degree required (emphasis in marketing, finance, or related discipline preferred)
10+ years of experience in related fields (e.g. M&A, Marketing, Sales, Business Development, etc.)
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills
Experience in successfully developing and introducing new products
Experience and proven track record in developing and implementing Marketing strategies
Previous experience in Marketing / Product Management
Must be able to generate and explain detailed forecasts, guidelines and procedures
Must be able to analyze and resolve non-routine marketing issues using independent judgment
Must be able to routinely make decisions which may affect immediate marketing operations and have a divisional effect
Must be able to observe and correct minute inconsistencies (e.g. in the printed word, product appearance, etc.)
