Job Description

Our company is seeking a Cloud engineer with a DBA background to join our Enterprise Database team. The ideal candidate will have a strong DBA-Developer skillset with cloud migration experience. The candidate should also have experience developing and implementing automation routines leveraging agile methodologies. The incumbent will build and integrate new systems and assist in the migration of legacy applications to public cloud resources while working across agile squads.

This role requires extensive collaboration across multiple functional teams and the ability to provide SME knowledge to application teams. This resource is part of the Enterprise Database team supporting AWS and Cloud initiatives. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in migrating databases for large-scale projects to cloud-based database technologies.

Looking for a self-motivated individual who proactively completes tasks with a strong attention to detail. The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Minimally, the candidate should have scripting and Cloud experience.

Experience planning, evaluating and implementing automation related projects/initiatives, including providing status updates is preferred. Must have strong organizational skills to create effective projects. Superior analytical and problem-solving skills are required, as are excellent verbal and written abilities.

The incumbent must be highly flexible and demonstrate a high level of intensity in working at a precise level of detail. Responsibility for customer satisfaction and responsiveness to need is a key success factor.

The incumbent needs to have prior work experience in Oracle Database administration and related tools, automation tools preferably Ansible, database cloud (AWS) administration. Prior work experience in other database technologies including SQL Server and database appliances such as Exadata and Teradata is a plus. AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or Associate or AWS Database Specialty certification is preferred.


  • Implement automated methods to perform Oracle database installation, cloning, patching, upgrades & migration.

  • Implement industry best practices for consistent modularized installation and configuration for production and non-production environments, including self-service options to service teams using a DevOps mindset and principles.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather requirements and engineer solutions that meets business needs.

  • Recommend, configure, and document high availability and business continuity solutions as per business requirements.

  • Define monitoring requirements for cloud databases and lead efforts for continual improvements and proactive monitoring.

  • Automate and improve SOP and maintenance tasks.

  • Act as a technical SME during escalated P1/P2 issues

  • Provide support to all change management activities like deployments to all production and non-production environments.

  • Troubleshoot, track and resolve complex database issues, identify recurring problems and apply fixes.

  • Keep replicated systems in sync with production.

  • Track and resolve database related requests from users and escalate, as necessary.

  • Perform proactive space & growth management for databases in Cloud infrastructure.

  • Design implement & maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.

  • Provide solutions for system performance tuning/optimization and minimize or eliminate slowness related incidents.

  • Responsible for all aspects of database security both at infrastructure and application level.

  • Provide support for internal and external audits of EBS instances, and design security policies surrounding the audit requirements.

  • Research, recommend and introduce new cloud-based technologies and new uses of existing technologies partnering with development partners and other subject matter experts.

  • Available to team 24/7 to support mission critical production system including on-call team members.


  • 8+ years related work experience in managing and administering Oracle, MySQL, Postgres databases

  • 3+ years’ experience implementing and administering cloud solutions on AWS platforms.

  • 2+ years’ experience implementing and administering AWS RDS.

  • Strong expertise in AWS specifically in compute, database, storage and security services

  • Thorough understanding of architectural elements required to support large AWS cloud installations and maintain high availability.

  • Ability to define and automate Oracle Application DBA and core DBA functions.

  • Must be able to write effective technical documents and reports.

  • Experience supporting all phases of the system development life cycle including development, testing, QA and production.

Preferred knowledge and experience

  • Experience with Cloud Formation, Python, Ansible.

  • Experience with Splunk.

  • Knowledge of government sponsored health care programs and systems.

  • Understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools like Azure DevOps, Kanban Board or equivalent.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or equivalent years of industry experience


  • Relevant AWS certifications are preferred.

  • Relevant Database certifications are preferred.

  • Relevant SAFe Certifications are preferred.
