Job Description

Due to growth at our Manufacturing site in Durham, North Carolina we are seeking a Senior Learning Specialist to join our team. The Senior Site Learning Specialist will define, develop, and facilitate all learning and development plans and activities for the start-up project facility within the site in support of the site’s learning strategy and Annual Learning Plan.

Reporting to the Director of Learning & Development, the Senior Specialist will be the primary learning & development point of contact for the assigned client group and will partner with the team to develop and direct the learning and development strategy for the on-boarding and training of the new facility staff. The successful onboarding and training of the staff for the new facility is critical to achieving Right-the-First-Time execution of start-up to full production capacity.


The candidate should have experience in the areas of learning, talent, Human Resources or comparable areas and have worked within a Biopharmaceutical and/or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing environment with knowledge of Quality Management systems, cGMP, and regulatory inspections.

The candidate should possess the change management skills necessary to demonstrate support organizational change.

Duties of a Senior Learning Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Project training lead and stakeholders to define desired performance outcomes; provide feedback and coaching on issues related to learning programs and policies.

  • Development and execution of the learning strategy for the start-up facility and enable one integrated strategy and plan.

  • Demonstrate a comprehension of processes and methodology to execute appropriate learning solutions.

  • Conduct learning needs assessments and identify performance needs and gaps and facilitate delivery of learning solutions, when appropriate; document needs for customization or localization of global core/common learning programs; develops solutions, as needed.

  • Qualify and coach skills trainers and classroom facilitators within client group to ensure optimal delivery of training programs.

  • Monitor, analyze, interpret and report internal trends; make recommendations for learning solutions, as appropriate.

  • Work with stakeholders to ensure alignment with learning needs. Ensure smooth client interactions during learning design engagements by facilitating communication across all involved stakeholders and teams.

  • Assist in identifying alternative training and non-training solutions when appropriate.

  • Ensures client is in Permanent Inspection Readiness and cGMP Compliance as it relates to Training/Learning & Development.

  • Assist in Environment, Health & Safety or Quality Compliance regulatory audits as needed

  • Solicit feedback on the overall success of the provided learning solutions. Interpret and discuss feedback with stakeholders. Convey recommendations based on data analysis, supported by internal stakeholders. Activate improvements to further enhance learning program effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Shared accountability for the execution of our Role-based curricula in partnership with stakeholders and subject-matter-experts.

  • Ensure delivery and execution of globally developed, locally managed Core & Common curriculum and on- boarding curriculum, which incorporates core/common our Manufacturing Division Onboarding Program.

  • Develops and creates training content in partnership with Global Learning & Development and subject-matter-experts.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a people development role (Learning & Development/Human Resources/Organizational Development/Training) or demonstrated ability to proactively develop employees

  • Minimum of five (5) years of working in pharmaceutical manufacturing

  • Learning Management System

  • Working knowledge and application of Adult Learning Principles and Evaluation Methodologies

  • Quality Management systems, cGMP, and regulatory inspections

  • Change Management | Curriculum Management

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing Production Systems

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing End-to-End Business Process & Functions
