Co-op Timeline: July 2023 - Dec 2023
The Immunology, Cardiovascular and Fibrosis Thematic Research Center (ICF-TRC) is focused on discovering and developing novel therapeutics to treat inflammatory, cardiovascular, and fibrotic diseases. The Translation Early Development/ Immunology Research lab within the ICF-TRC is seeking a co-op to carry out biomarker studies in patient samples.
The Fall co-op candidate will participate in an ongoing program in a dynamic small research group and should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment and will gain an understanding of translational work needed to support drug discovery efforts. The individual should be competent to work in a lab and will determine the levels of various disease activity markers in tissue samples from patients with various inflammatory/immunological diseases and compare them to samples from healthy donors using a variety of technology platforms. The individual will then correlate it to pharmacogenetic data generated with the patient samples and present it in lab meetings. Strong problem solving and time management skills are essential to complete diverse assigned tasks. Knowledge and skills in analysis of large datasets are a plus.
- Under supervision, carry out a variety of tissue-based assays, generating high-quality data to help in biomarker studies with ongoing program
- Use instrumentation to perform experiments
- Analyze data, record experimental details, and support the translational research program
- Maintain lab notebook, laboratory equipment, and supplies relevant to the project
- Search literature for targeted information
Qualifications & Experience
- Proficiency in molecular and cell biology laboratory techniques
- Proficiency with Microsoft office applications
- Knowledge and skills in analysis of large datasets preferable
- Possess knowledge of experimental design and underlying scientific principles
- Excellent organizational, record keeping, oral and written communication skills
- Team player, detail oriented and organized
- Ability to follow directions to complete assigned tasks under close supervision
- Willingness to report problems and solicit directions from Supervisor
- Ability to work in context of immediate work group or team
