The Video Engineering team provides foundational services, delivering ad supported, streaming video capabilities to our 200+ properties. These include our local news operations, sports operations, The Tennis Channel, and STIRR. These provide 24x7 news and entertainment to our nationwide audience. We are excited to be extending our current capabilities and helping shape the future of IPTV and Next Gen TV by creating standalone microservices, enabling a fast, stable, and scalable platform. We are modernizing our current video pipeline and migrating to cloud-based infrastructure.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and develop code and leverage technology to maintain and extend our cloud-based platform services, strengthening the architecture, enhancing stability, reliability, and performance of our components
  • Deliver incremental value to the business, our content producers, and our audience through iterative improvements to our products and the way they are experienced
  • Demonstrate technical leadership within the Agile team, raising up your peers and team members, enabling the success of the team and the wider organization, while acting tactically to consistently deliver innovative, durable solutions
  • Lead and influence the architectural design of features that fully meet specifications whilst driving quality and embracing and extending existing policies, practices and design patterns
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively across impacted teams and stakeholders, working with customer support, engineering and operational teams to ensure systems are intuitive, secure, scalable, reliable, and performant
  • Continually seek opportunities to increase effectiveness and value by improving processes and practices around application deployment and management

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • Track record of developing web services, micro services, or other large-scale distributed systems. Expertise in developing and delivering systems that are scalable, secure, reliable, and highly available
  • Experience in influencing software engineering best practices within team, including design reviews, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, documentation, operations, and support
  • Experience taking a lead role in developing complex software systems that have been successfully launched to end-users
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including communicating with other technical teams/tech leads, product management, with ability to build consensus in diversifying opinions
  • Leads by example and demonstrated ability to coach/mentor mid/junior level software engineers in all aspects of the software engineering process
  • Preferred a full stack developer. Hands-on expertise in AWS tech stack, and other technologies stack typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Streaming Video, HLS and DASH protocols. Experience building video workflows in the cloud
  • Knowledge of Video Codecs and DRM
  • Hands on experience with React, Node.js, JavaScript, Java with Spring Boot, Python, GitLab, and CICD, AWS EC2, Kubernetes, Docker, MySQL

The base salary compensation range for this role is $120,000 to $200,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
