Job Description

The Vaccine Process Development (VPD) department in West Point, PA is seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to join their downstream process development team in support of our company's expanding vaccine pipeline. The VPD downstream group develops purification processes for vaccine candidates encompassing a diverse range of biomolecules, including recombinant protein subunits, polysaccharides, nucleic acids, virus-like particles, and polysaccharide-protein conjugates. The successful candidate will be responsible for applying sound scientific understanding and engineering principles to develop, scale-up, and transfer downstream processes for clinical and commercial manufacturing. To support process development, the candidate will be responsible for conceiving, designing, and leading laboratory experiments in a dynamic team environment.

The candidate should be self-motivated, well-organized, with strong problem-solving skills. The individual should also demonstrate well-developed skills for the communication of scientific information in both verbal and written formats. Position Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:

  • Downstream process development of vaccine or bioconjugate candidates including process scale-up.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with biochemical reactions and downstream unit operations such as ultrafiltration, normal-flow filtration, homogenization, and chromatography.

  • Experience with analytical methods such as HPLC, light scattering, and spectroscopic techniques.

  • Communication of scientific information through oral presentations and written documents.

  • Familiarity with GxP principles and regulations.

  • Well-developed organizational, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 6 years industrial experience or hands-on laboratory work in the field of bioprocess development, or

  • MS in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 3 years industrial experience or hands-on laboratory work in the field of bioprocess development, or

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 1 year industrial experience or hands-on laboratory work in the field of bioprocess development.
