Job Description

The HVAC & R Senior Technician will provide maintenance supporting vaccine process equipment operations. Takes appropriate action to correct Plant Engineering maintenance problems. Responsible for supporting our Company Manufacturing Division site mission by assuring quality of products and services are of the highest quality, optimal cost, and delivered on schedule. Responsible for supporting departmental vision that will provide for continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation. Must be able to function in a team-based empowered culture. Seeks ideas and information on how to improve customer service involving internal and external customers. Applies knowledge of the overall supply chain to efficiently complete work tasks.

HVAC Skills Concentration

A primary knowledge in the industrial HVAC & R environment is required, specifically industrial refrigeration systems which includes DX systems, chillers, cascade refrigeration, freezers and cold boxes. HVAC & R troubleshooting skills are essential and the applicant must have experience with GMP areas, room pressurization and dehumidification systems. Must be able to read electrical prints, P&ID's and understand P&ID control loops. Extensive industrial experience involving utility systems with a strong knowledge of HVAC, steam, potable water is necessary. Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow instructions for completion of job tasks.

  • Repairs and maintains all vaccine process support equipment to include air handlers, hot water skids, refrigerators, freezers, ultra low freezers, incubators, etc.

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerning operation of equipment and mechanical condition of equipment.

  • Provide technical training to other site personnel.

  • Compliance with current good manufacturing procedures(cGMP), safety and environmental requirements/regulations/guidelines.

  • Effective communication both written and verbal.

  • Ensure maintenance records (i.e., Work Orders, PMs and Calibrations) are maintained and completed on-time.

  • Maintain and operate the waste and chemical treatment processes.

  • Position requires aseptic gowning during performance of job duties.

  • Required to support an on-call schedule to include days, nights and weekends on a rotational basis with other team members.

  • Effective calibration/troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to communicate and work in a highly effective team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and advance several tasks in parallel.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

  • Proficient in the use of general hand and power tools, instruments and testing apparatus common to the electronic and instrumentation fields.

  • Ability to read P&ID's, electrical drawings, blueprints, etc.

  • Ability to work with and troubleshoot computer control equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Prepares technical documentation (preventative maintenance procedures) on as needed basis.

  • Participates in the establishment and improvement of new and existing process support equipment.

  • Provides technical specifications and information to Quality, Manufacturing, Process-Project Engineers, and other Manufacturing Division requestors.

  • Maintains Utility equipment by developing/performing PM's, installing new equipment, completing validation protocols, documenting work using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS - Maximo, SAP) and other duties as requested by the Utility Maintenance Manager.

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerning operations of equipment and mechanical condition of equipment.

  • Efficient and safe maintenance and repair of equipment using Hazardous Energy Control Procedures (HECPs).

  • Ability to follow complex instructions and use Manufacturing Division business systems (SAP, ADP eTime, etc.).

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and advance several tasks in parallel.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • HS Diploma or GED and 4 years of HVAC-R experience or a 2 years technical degree and 2 years of experience.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in the use and knowledge of PCs (Hardware & Software) including Microsoft Windows platform.

  • BAS, HVAC and instrumentation troubleshooting skills.

  • Must be able to read electrical prints, P&ID's, and understand P&ID control loops.

  • Excellent documentation and verbal communication skills.

  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with peers, and display strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of industrial HVAC and building automation systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems which includes DX systems, cascade refrigeration systems, and absorption systems.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry such as FDA.

  • Desiccant Dehumidification System and Room pressure controls.

  • Industrial experience involving utility system generation, distribution and control and strong knowledge of steam, compressed air, refrigeration and water systems.

  • Knowledge of Siemens "APOGEE/Desigo" BAS.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level. Walking, bending, crawling, stooping is required.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, earplugs, gloves, hard hats, safety harnesses, etc

  • 12 hours shifts, 2-2-3 schedule days/nights ( Position will begin as 1st Shift - Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:30PM until trained).
