Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

The Senior Automation Maintenance Technician is part of a cross functional team of Maintenance technicians and is responsible for automation and maintenance related troubleshooting of high-speed packaging equipment at the Wilson, NC site. Additional duties include. The Senior Automation Maintenance Technician is considered a subject matter expert for packaging equipment within their respective area of coverage.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

Line Performance:

  • Provides advanced automation and maintenance technical assistance and troubleshooting as required to support Maintenance and Operations for critical packaging system equipment failures.

  • Aids maintenance personnel by leading the evaluation and troubleshooting of various automation system issues encountered by production maintenance personnel.

  • Partners with Automation engineers to resolve difficult automation system issues as required.

  • Support installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, repair, calibration and troubleshooting of complex automated high speed packaging equipment.

  • Performs maintenance set-up tasks for pharmaceutical production/process equipment according to current site procedures.

  • Performs minor and major equipment repairs to packaging equipment by disassembling, repairing, and reassembling equipment to proper operational condition.

  • Use equipment technical data, read and interpret drawings, PLC code, diagrams, and schematics as required to perform system troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Initiates/engages in problem solving and develop short-term and long-term actions to prevent problem reoccurrence for chronic equipment issues.

  • Determines proper settings and clearances, installs replacement parts, and adjusts for given machine setups to accommodate various sizes and shapes of tablets, bottles, packages, fill volumes, etc., as outlined in equipment setup documentation or as required to secure optimal productivity.

  • Mentor operations and maintenance personnel on packaging equipment operation and setup in order to optimize line performance.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and advance several tasks in parallel.

  • Participate in the establishment and improvement of new and existing packaging equipment.

  • Assist with execution of site projects such as new line/equipment installs, Automation Change Controls, etc. as required.

  • Supports planning and execution of annual maintenance shutdown activities.

Information Transfer:

  • Attends departmental and team meetings.

  • Provides updates for equipment line changes/modifications to others.

  • Participates in Tier Meetings.

Compliance:

  • Applies creative/technical solutions aimed at improved compliance and safety for production equipment.

  • Perform industrial maintenance functions in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices and prepares technical documentation.

  • Compliance with current good manufacturing procedures(cGMP), safety and environmental requirements/regulations/guidelines.

  • Troubleshoot/problem solve with a strong emphasis around safety and compliance practices.

  • Document all equipment repairs in the SAP Maintenance work order system to help maintain an accurate and compliant equipment history.

  • Provides equipment SME technical support for equipment related deviation investigations.

  • Support department and site safety and compliance metrics.

  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean and appropriate 5S condition.

Education, Skills, and Experience

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma with 5+ years of Automation and Maintenance experience; OR
  • Associate Degree in technical field and 3+ years of Automation and Maintenance experience

Additional Skills and Experience:

  • Problems solving skills with electrical, automation and/or mechanical equipment.

  • Ability to comply with regulatory requirements in accordance with GMP operations.

  • Read P&ID's, electrical schematics, blueprints, etc.

  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, Calibration/Maintenance Database System.

  • Proficient in the use of general hand and power tools, instruments, and testing apparatus commonly used in maintenance and instrumentation.

  • Able to work well in a fast-paced packaging environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong communication, team, and interpersonal skills.

  • 5+ years of experience in Automation/Maintenance supporting high-speed production and packaging related equipment, preventive maintenance and calibration control systems.

  • Maintenance experience within the Pharmaceutical or Biopharmaceutical industry preferred.

  • Experience in Deviation Management investigation process.
