This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday- Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8 hour shifts of 11:30 – 8:00 pm PST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends. Our office is located at 5003 Commercial Circle, Concord, CA 94520.

Essential Job Functions

  • Verifies patient information is accurate for each hospital encounter.
  • Resolves verification of eligibility and benefit information issues.
  • Utilizes work queues and other control reports to process all assigned encounters.
  • Monitors third party payer coverage requirements advising the patient of any potential out of pocket expenses.
  • Supports assigned pre-service functions including pre-registration, obtaining authorizations and financial counseling.
  • Assists uninsured or underinsured patients to establish a payer source or to make payment arrangements.
  • Provides cost estimates to patients who identify as “self pay” and wish to schedule services at a JMH location.
  • Ensures safekeeping of credit card information and appropriately documents transaction in patient’s encounter.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information.
  • Maintains current knowledge of computer registration, updating patient data as needed.
  • Meets productivity standards, quality review expectations, unit specific goals and reporting requirements as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of experience in an admitting, registration, or hospital business office-oriented role
  • Knowledge of Health Care, insurance and third-party payers
  • Keyboarding skill/speed of 35-40 wpm and skill using mouse
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Candidates must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EPIC proficiencies for this position must be passed within 90 days of start date
  • Experienced with Microsoft Excel (data entry, sorting/filtering)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding desired
