Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, is seeking candidates for a rewarding career opportunity to support the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) and be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. We seek a Security Training Specialist in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will act as a member of the security training staff in all training environments and report directly to the Security Training Manager. The successful candidate will develop, present, and document training in both a classroom and tactical environment. Coordinate with content developers to create protective force lesson plans to adequately address identified needs. Plan, schedule, and execute security training events, to include Force-on-Force iterations, while coordinating with other participating stakeholders (Emergency Services, Safety, Technical Training, etc.). Plan, Schedule, and Track security officer training requirements for the protective force. Conduct, as required, emergency range drills to assess performance and improve operations. Attain and Maintain NTC Basic Instructor Certification, NTC Firearms Instructor Certification, NTC Intermediate Force Instructor Certification, and NTC Amorer Certification. Develop and deliver limited scope performance tests (LSPTs) to test the appropriate Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) of the protective force. Facilitate range training and operations with a focus on safety and participant success. Conduct physical fitness tests and readiness demonstrations as required by 10 CFR 1046. Order, Issue, Track, and Inventory protective force weapons, ammunition, gear, and equipment. Attain/Maintain qualifications as a SPO-1 in order to remain proficient and be available for contingency staffing needs.

NWP Exempt Salary Grade (29 – 33)


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree , or
  • Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
  • High School diploma or GED plus eight (8) years of experience is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE “Q” clearance.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective oral, analytical, written, and communications skills.
  • Must have practical experience and be proficient in software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and MS Outlook.
  • Ability to successfully conduct training and presentations to large groups.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Firearms experience in a professional capacity is preferred.
  • Previous range training/firearms instructor experience is desired.
  • Preference given to candidates with classroom instruction experience.
  • Physical Security experience is a plus.
  • Preference given to candidates with any of the following DOE NTC certifications:
    • MIT-111 Basic Instructor Course
    • FR-100 Armorer Certification I
    • MIT-115DE Student Testing
    • MIT-120 Job Analysis
    • TRF-100 Tactical Response Force
    • PFT-401 Firearms Instructor Training
    • PFT-403 Intermediate Force Instructor Certification
    • PFT-106DE Firearms Safety
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
