About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The ADMS Power Network Analysis (PNA) Engineer works with a team of analysts and engineers in support of the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS). The system is a critical, real-time, 7x24 application that controls, monitors, and models the flow of power across the FirstEnergy distribution system and interconnections.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide primary maintenance and support of the ADMS network application toolset (network model, power flow, and contingency analysis) for ADMS environments.
  • Support extraction, cleansing and loading of electrical model data and associated engineering analysis.
  • Act as a liaison between ADMS support, operations, and engineering functions.
  • Understand the business functions in order to provide optimal solutions that are scalable, reliable and cost effective.
  • Provide technical leadership for support and planning in the power network applications area.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues in the electrical model ensuring overall data integrity and alignment between ADMS, Distribution SCADA, and GIS.
  • Manage schedules and coordinate changes following established department procedures.
  • Provide engineering technical expertise to ensure the operational reliability of Distribution SCADA and Real-Time Network Analysis systems.
  • Maintain the Oracle NMS training simulators for distribution functions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Ability and willingness to travel to company sites, work flexible hours, and be available for call-in and after-hours support (7X24 operations).
  • Ability to effectively use standard PC software, including MS Windows and Office products, web-based systems, e-mail, relational database query tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels and with varying backgrounds.
  • Experience in providing responsive and effective customer service.
  • Highly motivated to work independently and productively within a virtual environment (i.e. working with remote co-workers using virtual technologies).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and plan work, work on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with relevant utility operations (transmission, distribution, generation).
  • Experience with Oracle databases.
  • Data communications and networking knowledge.
  • Previous PNA or network analysis and/or engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to effectively resolve technical problems.
  • Familiarity with power flow applications.
  • Familiarity with engineering simulation software
  • Familiarity with working in a real time system environment.
  • Concentration in Power Systems Engineering (if Engineering degree).
