Eaton’s CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer - DER and EV Integration.

Eaton Research Labs (ERL) is currently looking for a Lead Engineer to join our team in Golden, CO.

Relocation assistance and future work visa sponsorship will be provided, if needed.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97499.97 - $142999.96 a year.

What you’ll do:

The primary role of this position is to lead technology development and execution for projects related to integration and management of distributed energy resources (DER) and electric vehicles (EV) to the grid. Key technology development will require control methods utilizing machine learning (ML), data-centric approaches, and artificial intelligence (AI) for energy transition at the distribution level.

In this role you will:

• Serve as a technical and/or project lead in technology development and demonstration.

• Contribute to the development of strategies for technology roadmaps for specific applications that are linked to and supportive of the overall ERL and business strategies.

• Serve as a subject matter expert externally and internally. This includes leadership/active participation in external industry and technical groups, mentoring junior level staff and consulting internal business and engineering partners.

• Create innovative grid integration and energy management solutions. Support implementing state-of-the-art concepts and solutions into quick prototypes, feasibility studies, specifications, and eventually into larger systems and product components.

• Investigate, integrate, and validate new product designs abiding by time-based milestones. Engage multiple business stakeholders, cross-functional teams, national labs, universities, and utility customers.

• Innovate, invent, and challenge state-of-the-art design and process by securing critical intellectual properties through patents and publications in reputable peer-reviewed archival sources.

• Serve as individual contributor and subject matter expert in government and non-government proposal preparation and/or project execution.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• PhD degree or PhD candidate close to graduation in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, OR

Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field plus 3 years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience, OR

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field plus 5 years of industrial or entrepreneurial experience.

• Demonstrated strong programming experience in MATLAB or Python or a similar numerical coding environment.

• Demonstrated strong experience in one or more of the following areas:

a) AI/ML applications for power systems engineering (or) DER management algorithm and software development (or) integration and controls of DER/EV for grid services;

b) development and/or application of data-based (or) model-free (or) hybrid technology for any of the above mentioned areas;

c) contribution to the fundamental knowledge in AI/ML/data science with demonstrated application in power systems engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Programming experience in one or more of the following: Julia, Kera, TensorFlow, R, or SAS.

• User experience in one or more power systems simulation software like CYME, PSCAD, or Simulink.

• Strong background in DER and/or power systems controls.
