Eaton’s CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer - Grid Intelligence. This position is based in Golden, CO. We are offering relocation assistance within the US and company sponsorship if needed.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97499.97 - $142999.96 a year.

What you’ll do:

As a key contributor to ground-breaking research at Eaton Research Labs, you will be performing research and development into cutting-edge power grid technologies with the identification of market opportunities, implementation, and demonstration in realistic laboratory, utility, or critical facility environments.

The successful candidate will be challenged with engaging in research programs on power system protection, grid automation, power systems control, modeling and simulation, and cyber resilience. The major role in this position is to work on technology development research projects in these domains and ensure the successful completion and deliverables.

In addition, you will support business case development and technology evaluation. This role also includes participation in highly visible internal and government funding opportunity solicitation, application, and project execution.

As a domain expert, a successful candidate will be able to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Specifically, internal connections with Eaton’s primary business groups/units, and external connections with universities, national labs, utilities, etc., serve as the key success factors and play an important role. The ability to concisely communicate sophisticated technologies to a variety of audiences (business leaders, technical and non-technical colleagues and peers), and a good blend of technical knowledge and business acumen are essential.

In this role, you will:

• Serve as a technical and/or project researcher in technology development, validation and demonstration.

• Work and track on project milestones. Take and possibly assign roles and responsibilities for the project team members.

• Participate in brainstorming sessions contributing to technology strategy development.

• Contribute to the value proposition development for technical projects and programs.

• Contribute to government proposal preparation and/or assist with project execution. May serve as technical lead in proposal preparation and/or owner of work package during project execution.

• Support building business relationships by presenting ideas and projects, participating in ideation events and acquiring resources and funding needed.

• Assist in the identification of leading external partnerships, outside technologies and best practices to bring to Eaton.

• Participate in external open innovation events with universities and research institutes.

• Develop as a subject matter expertise through active participation in conferences, seminars and/or consortium meetings in relevant industry to network and stay current on topics in their field.

• Actively contribute to IP generation through authoring/co-authoring disclosures and patents.

• Effectively apply appropriate processes, systems, and tools.

• Mentor junior staff and consult internal business and engineering customers.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree, OR Master's degree plus 3 years of industrial or research experience

Expertise in at least two of the following areas required:

  • Distribution grid operation and control
  • Power systems protection and fault management
  • Power system modeling and simulation
  • Grid automation and communication
  • AI / Machine Learning applied to power grids
  • Signal processing, data mining and data analytics
  • Distributed control and agent-based solution applied to power grid
  • CYME and other planning software
  • Cyber resiliency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with power grid operation, protection and control
  • Experience with simulation tools
  • Familiarity and experience with corporate research and development work style, technical presentation, idea proposing, and project execution
