Eaton is seeking a Chief/Principal Engineer, Power Electronics to join eMobility team. This position is based at our Southfield, MI location. Relocation assistance will be provided.Position Overview:The Power Electronics Principal Engineer functionally leads the power electronics development within the eMobility organization. The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring the power electronics organization is sufficiently resourced and drives the technical execution and product development. The Chief Engineer reports directly to the Head of Common Functions Engineering for eMobility and is responsible for supporting the development of traction and auxiliary inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC converters and power distribution and circuit protection.Making what matters work at Eaton takes the passion of every employee around the world. The global organization includes power electronic engineers located within five product lines and a supporting common function organization.+ Define and implement the eMobility power electronics strategy to achieve best-in-class power electronic components and systems with respect to cost, efficiency, power density and reliability.+ Assess current capability areas and processes and recommend initiatives to strengthen or expand capabilities in alignment with eMobility power electronics strategy.+ Build the power electronics organizational capability. Define key positions; organizational structure; assess employee competency, capabilities and gaps; training and development assignments; and support recruitment to strengthen organization.+ Provide functional guidance and professional mentorship to the power electronics technical specialists and electrical engineering managers within the product lines and common function teams.+ Using in-depth technical and industry knowledge, identify market trends and drive the advanced technology roadmap to ensure a robust pipeline of technology and products.+ Review and define system specifications and requirements. Define product subsystem technology concepts to meet requirements and align with technology roadmap.+ Lead and conduct critical design reviews for power electronic components and subsystems.+ Present issues and risks, and their business impact to management in a timely manner with proposed mitigation. Actively seek and removes impediments to team success regardless of where they originate.+ Continuously improves electronics development productivity, quality, predictability and team morale.+ Establish people management and processes to attract and retain the best talent in the power electronics and technology space.When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we as individuals and as a company are stronger. QualificationsRequired (Basic) Qualifications:+ Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on power electronics+ Minimum 15 years experience in electronics product development+ Minimum 10 years experience in power electronics product development+ Minimum 7 years experience in the automotive, eMobility or semiconductor industryPreferred qualifications:+ Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on power electronics+ Minimum 10 years experience in automotive product development+ Minimum 5 years experience in the eMobility spacePosition Criteria:+ Highly knowledgeable of wide band gap materials, magnetics and electromagnetic compatibility/interference+ Willing to travel 20%We are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
