Reporting to the Director, IT Hosting Services, the Associate Director, Data Center Engineering is the product owner responsible for all aspects of delivering data center engineering services for all Data Centers, Local Computer Rooms, and Colocation hosting facilities located in various countries.
The Associate Director is responsible for collaborating with facilities and IT teams at various locations around the world to ensure our hosting facilities meet or exceed business expectations for reliability, resiliency, capacity, and cost. They are responsible to set global standards and best practices for hosting facility design and drive facility assessment, solution design, planning, and coordination of hosting facilities through all phases of their lifecycle.
Defines the overall vision, strategy, and roadmaps for our hosting facilities and makes service decisions with a keen focus on value, business outcomes, and user experience.
Recruit, develop and retain highly capable engineering team.
Drive the development and delivery of hosting facility strategy, standards, and planning.
Lead development and delivery of hosting projects and manage associated planning and annual budgets for various Data Center projects related to capacity, demand, and efficiency.
Oversees management and delivery of Data Center tools, including DCIM and others as needed.
Maintain effective relationships with vendors and suppliers ensuring effective, high-quality delivery and appropriate cost management.
Oversee governance of our facilities partners to ensure effective maintenance and delivery of support infrastructure services.
Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts from technology, process, and supply chain perspectives.
Provide technical support for the Data Center Operations staff and all IT and Network Engineering and Operations staff.
Education Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, engineering, or related discipline.
Required Experience and Skills:
5+ years of IT leadership experience managing geographically distributed teams
8+ years designing, deploying, and integrating data center and colocation hosting solutions supporting 24/7/365 mission-critical services.
Experience aligning the organization and communicating complex technical decisions to leadership and executives.
Understanding of ITIL processes, compliance and quality programs, audits, and physical security.
Experience with product management techniques such as strategy, road mapping, etc.
Experience in different delivery methods (traditional, agile) in large organizations
Ability to develop relationships and lead cross-functional teams with people in diverse global geographies including company employees and 3rd party partners and vendors.
Ability to resolve problems in high stress, high visibility situations.
Strong team building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Strong business understanding and negotiation skills with the ability to make rapid disciplined decisions from both a business and technology perspective.
Good understanding of cyber-security principles
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Data Center Certifications such as CDCDP, DCDC, or equivalent are desirable.
Industry technical certifications in EMC, Cisco, or VMware are desirable.
PMP, ITIL, SCRUM, and/or Product Mgmt. related certifications or equivalent are desirable.
