Eaton’s Aerospace Division is currently seeking a Quality Engineering Supervisor to join our team. This position is based at our Jackson, MI facility.

Position Overview:

Ensure the quality of Eaton’s products through the development and enforcement of quality processes while ensuring a continual improvement atmosphere. Provide direction and supervision to personnel in the functions responsible for supplier quality engineering and development. Develop and mentor employees on subjects relating to customer requirements, quality engineering tools, inspection techniques, inspection equipment and processes as appropriate. Lead continuous improvement efforts to focus on taking suppliers to the next level of performance. Support special process and customer audits and provide training and coaching to others as required.

In this function you will:

  • Act as a primary organizational contact for customer concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are deployed as necessary using 8D, 5-Why, and lean tools while driving a Zero-defect mindset.
  • Develop, set, and achieve goals associated with the quality engineering team that are aligned with the Quality Department and Jackson Plant.
  • Coordinate, direct and prioritize quality engineering activities to assure top priorities are focused on key objectives of quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Lead manufacturing quality team to ensure continuous improvement activity is at forefront especially within High Performance Work Teams.
  • Identify the training/mentoring/development needs of the team and ensure those needs are addressed
  • Review customer/industry/internal specifications to ensure compliance with stated requirements. Provides technical support to operations, customers, and suppliers as required.
  • Assure that product shipped meets internal and external customer requirements.
  • Communicate quality issues to front line leaders, factory personnel, and customers. Assist them in root cause and permanent corrective action.
  • Direct the disposition and analysis of returned material and internal non-conforming product. Ensure that actions around top pareto items are identified and completed.
  • Ensures organizational readiness for customer and other Third-party assessments related to the product or process. Host Customer and Third-Party Inspectors/Auditors as needed.
  • Deploy Eaton Business System tools, where appropriate or required, to improve Quality Management System effectiveness (i.e., QLI/QBP, EZDP, EQMS, ELSS, WISPER, MESH, GEMBA, Leaders Standard Work, STOP Cards, etc.).
  • Develop and deploy pFMEAs and Control Plans per AIAG standard.
  • Formulate and implement quality assurance procedures, policies, and standards. Ensure these documents align with the recognized Aerospace Quality System Standard as well as Eaton Objectives, Policies and Procedures.
  • Manages customer portals and customer scorecards to ensure actions are being completed and customer requirements are being met.
  • Support product transition needs as required.
  • Complete assignments with minimal oversight.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering or manufacturing/operations experience.
  • Manager of people experience or demonstration of leading cross-functional teams with positive outcome/results.
  • Knowledge of standard manufacturing process, metal forming, assembly/test in an Aerospace environment.
  • Read and understand Blueprints, Specifications, and requirement flow down.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Jackson, MI will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with a unionized workforce and following proper protocol within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • The ideal candidate would have 2-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) and performing quality audits.
  • Expertise in problem solving tools and techniques (8D, A3, 3-Legged 5 Why, and Ishikawa Cause and Effect).
  • Experienced in use of continuous improvement lean manufacturing principles and scrap reduction tools (5S+, Value Stream Mapping, PDCA, Standard Work, and Poka-Yoke).
  • Experienced in use of AIAG quality tools to reduce variability and mitigate risk (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and SPC).
