What you’ll do:

Position Overview:

The Master Designer supports project teams from a design capacity, where incumbent will be solicited for expertise in developing new electronic and/or mechanical prototypes (TRL 4-6) and advance the state of the art in design consistent with manufacturing and agency standards, and business objectives.

In this function you will: (keep 5-7 bulletins)

• Responsible for creating, proposing, and executing innovative packaging designs of power converters using MCAD tools, listed in section 5, with sound mechanical consideration, minimizing electrical parameters, and cooling requirements defined by engineering. Candidate must be fluent in the software to quickly turn ideas into workable designs in short time frames.

• Sheet metal, machined metals & plastic and Additive Manufactured designed parts and assemblies. Electrical bus bar design, with consideration for insulation, creepage & clearance requirements. Use of appropriate manufacturing methods to facilitate cost effective and efficient prototype builds.

• Interprets engineer’s requests with purpose and application, makes studies and calculations necessary to develop the most accurate design models, drawings and layouts.

• Document and prepare, revision controlled, documentation with a minimum of supervision to facilitate prototype MFG, with an emphasis on providing accurate documentation to direct engineers and technicians for assembly.

• Determination, specification of required components, creation / maintenance of bill of materials, for procurement, and cost estimates.

• Investigate new technologies, processes and materials by attending trade shows and seminars. Occasionally visit vendors and Eaton manufacturing facilities.

• Participate in CAD user group to keep up to date on latest software developments.


Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Student in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with special focus in Power Electronics.

• Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please don't round).

• Relocation is not provided for this role, the candidate must be located within 50 miles of Menomonee Falls, WI.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Design engineering experience – in packaging of power electronics

• High voltage and low voltage electronics experience

• 1 year of experience

• Previous work experience in a Research environment

• Proactively seeks efficiency related to design techniques, documentation, and process enhancements in a fast paced environment.

• Excellent knowledge of and ability to apply customer requirements to mechanical or electrical drafting.

• Good knowledge of Eaton Electrical products and application of agency standards such as UL, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and NEC.

• Software experience: Creo or equivalent parametric tool (I.e. Inventor, etc.). AutoCAD, MS Office Applications
