Job Summary

The Waste Treatment Plant is one of the world’s largest construction projects located on the Department of Energy Hanford Site, located in Richland, WA. The Plant Engineer job family is responsible for technical activities relating to operations and maintenance of plant equipment during Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) and Commissioning and Operations.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control and supervision of WTCC

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Support Plant Engineering preparation for turnover to systems from startup to operations.
  • Research vendor information for operations periodic maintenance needs. Develop task forms for system engineers to implement periodic maintenance.
  • Assist electrical engineers in the development of arc flash calculations supporting electrical safety
  • Support development of WTCC battery charging program
  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

Amentum has joined with Bechtel to create an LLC, known as the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) to construct, start-up and commission the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.


Minimum Requirements

Education: Junior or Senior year toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering Discipline or appropriate Sciences
