Job Summary

The Plant Engineering organization is responsible for the technical activities relating to operations and maintenance of plant equipment during Construction, Commissioning, and Operations of the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP). The Instrumentation and Control Software Engineer is responsible for contributing to a team of highly qualified Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineers in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of the digital control system software applications and system interfaces through the application of software quality principles. The I&C Software Engineer works with management, consultants, developers, and users to implement software/system enhancements as well as support software issue resolution. The Software Engineer also supports the software operation, diagnosis, and troubleshooting needs of the Plant Operations organization. This position is located at the project jobsite.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

Amentum has joined with Bechtel to create an LLC, known as the Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) to construct, start-up and commission the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington state. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 53 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste currently stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind ever and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects equivalent to building two nuclear power plants. Its construction site spans 65 acres and includes facilities for pretreatment, low-activity waste vitrification, and high-level waste vitrification, as well as an analytical laboratory.


Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering.

Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree: 4 to 6 years related experience to the position and 20 semester credit hours in technical subjects related to the position,

Experience: 4 – 6 years’ experience with significant experience in software requirements, design and/or implementation on a Distributed/Industrial Control System.

  • Programming experience with ABB 800xA Industrial/Distributed Control System Applications
  • Technical writing skills required; database experience desired.
  • Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Profibus DP, and Modbus RTU desired, but not required.
  • Knowledge of software quality engineering principles for the management, design, and testing of software desired, but not required.
  • Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft application suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Preferred candidates will have DOD, DOE, Nuclear, and/or WTP experience.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
