Primary Role

This Co-Op experience will introduce you to exciting Structural Engineering career opportunities in the water and wastewater field. The successful candidate will learn firsthand how water utilities support communities and provide resiliency and sustainability. The candidate will work with a Structural Engineer and a team of engineers in a fast-paced, professional setting which provides the candidate invaluable experiences applying the knowledge and skills learned through education in a business environment. Chosen candidate will acquire experience in steel, reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, in addition to gaining familiarity with building codes and structural analysis and design software. This position will develop skills in the design and analysis of environmental structures such as Industrial Buildings, Pump Stations, Process Basins, and Treatment Facilities.

Depending on the candidate’s education and experience level, duties may also include assisting in the engineering design of water production facilities; assisting in the review of structural, architectural and engineering standards and templates; developing materials for training programs; and assisting in the team's management and delivery of the company's construction program. The student may accompany engineers on occasional field assignments and facility inspections as needed.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Comfort with communicating with others in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.

Experience/Education

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with concentration in structural engineering.
  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in at least their junior year within a Structural Engineering curriculum is required
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel for data management desirable.
  • Experience in Staad Pro, Ram Elements, Revit, and AutoCAD helpful, but not required.
