Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer.​

The expected annual salary range for this role is $88499.97 - $129799.96 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you’ll do:

The Lead Systems Engineers work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and are responsible for successfully validating that the system level design fulfills the customers’ needs. Responsibilities span research, design, and development and include:

• Provide technical leadership and guidance on the principles of systems engineering to multiple engineering disciplines.

• Coordinate and execute system and sub-system development in compliance with Eaton approved engineering processes, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.

• Conduct requirements capture, definition, analysis, requirements change management, requirement maturity metrics and traceability efforts.

• Support the lead design engineer with system design definition, decomposing the system into distinct LRUs and managing/deriving subsystem requirements for multiple disciplines including, but not limited to mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, reliability, maintainability, and safety.

• Generate and/or review system requirement documents: requirements management plans, system design descriptions, system & component specifications, requirements trace matrices, and requirements verification matrices.

• Conduct Systems Requirements Review (SRR) and Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and use requirements management software (i.e., IBM Rational DOORS) to capture, validate, verify, and trace requirements.

• Work within a multi engineering discipline team and proactively collaborates with technical leads, design engineers, and other technical functions to develop fully compliant product designs on time and on budget.

• Support site planning, rollout, and compliance with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) requirements.

• Work to Design for Six Sigma principles including translation of customer wants and needs into Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements, careful management of those CTQ requirements through the design lifecycle, rigorous knowledge building of the design space, and understanding of the effects of sub system variation.

• Work directly with internal and external customers to develop systems and products.

• Coach / Mentor junior engineers in the methodology and best practices of system engineering.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

• Minimum of 5 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a Systems Engineering role.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt

• Proficiency with IBM Rational DOORS

• Proficiency with MathWorks MATLAB and Simulink

• Proficient in test procedure creation, product testing, and data interpretation

• Experience in Project Management

Position Criteria:

• Demonstrated technical leadership skills working with a cross-functional team.

• Ability to work mostly autonomously as well as in collaboration with the technical lead or engineering manager.

• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with internal and external customers.

• Sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills.

• Demonstrated track record of successfully applying several of the following engineering principles:

  • Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards, regulations, and certifications
  • Requirements capture, validation and traceability
  • Systems integration and verification
  • Systems architecture design
  • Detail trade studies
  • Systems integration
  • Dynamic modeling and simulation
