PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Analyst/Specialist Regulatory Reporting role will work as part of a team dedicated to the preparation and review of high quality external disclosure documents, including quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements as well as annual and quarterly regulatory financial filings, in accordance with US GAAP and Canadian/US regulatory accounting requirements; it will work with various teams across business to gain a comprehensive understanding of CP’s corporate functions and operating results. The role will also support the regulatory economics analysis such as price index, cost of capital and grain revenue related calculation, to ensure that it achieves its mandate of improving corporate earnings and reducing business risks.

This individual will possess a strong accounting and financial reporting skills to produce high quality financial deliverables, capable of working independently with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment, strong have a strong work ethic, capable of working with multiple deadlines, strong including the ability to work with large volumes of data, and a strong focus on process improvement. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a sense of ownership, curiosity and a strong focus on process improvement, and have applied initiative to solve complex problems and improve processes on an ongoing basis.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and related schedules, and various operational and financial filings under Canadian/US regulatory accounting standards to regulatory agencies;
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian/US regulatory accounting standards – regulatory accounting standards are prescribed principles which are modified from US GAAP;
  • Identify, analyze and reconcile US GAAP to regulatory accounting differences;
  • Prepare financial and operational statistics analysis on quarterly and annually basis;
  • Perform journal entries and reconciliations;
  • Review, trace and understand account codes, cost objects on accounting transactions;
  • Coordinate with multiple internal stakeholders to obtain and validate information needed for reporting purpose;
  • Identify and analyze improvement to processes and work with stakeholders (corporate reporting, tax, operations, information service) to implement selected solution;
  • Provide financial data to support price index, cost of capital and grain revenue related calculations, and help to develop economic information reports to regulatory agencies;
  • Liaise with government agencies and keep on top of regulatory changes, proposals and analyze impact of changes.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Accounting (CPA) Designation;
  • Possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to work with large volumes of data using Excel;
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines and work independently in a fast – paced environment;
  • Display intellectual curiosity, fast and effective learning;
  • Application expertise (desirable): SAP, BW, BPC;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
