The primary focus of this role is to support Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as the Specialist of EOHSS for the Phoenix Facility within the Department of Environmental, Occupational Health, Safety and Sustainability (EOHSS). As the Specialist you will play an active role in supporting the company’s environmental, occupational health, safety, and sustainability (EOHSS) efforts within the Phoenix Facility to drive long-term company and stakeholder value. The individual in this role will be responsible for providing field and administrative support and developing, planning, organizing, and executing EOHSS programs, policies, procedures, and training to ensure that the site maintains a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant facility in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in aligning corporate and local policies and procedures and will enable and foster a proactive and integrated EOHSS culture that promotes a positive, proactive approach throughout all operations.

In this role, The Specialist will report to the site Associate Director within the department of Environment, Occupational Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EOHS) at the Phoenix facility.

The Specialist will coordinate, implement, assess, and improve environmental, safety, occupational health, sustainability outcomes at the direction of the Director using global and local regulations and consensus guides, BMS management systems, policies, and procedures. The Specialist will promote compliant, forward-leaning culture and preserve BMS’ reputation while driving shared Company objectives at the direction of the site Associate Director. The specialist will be expected to approach the execution of these tasks in alignment with the BMS values of Integrity, Inclusion, Passion, Innovation, Urgency, and Accountability.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with federal, canton, and local environmental, safety, medical surveillance and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus guides.
  • Collaborates to implement new and update and improve existing EOHSS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage a wide range of communications and preparation / distribution of EOHSS communications.
  • Manage site platforms, databases, and SharePoint for documentation of procedures, forms, SOPs, investigations, reporting, inspections, action items, communications, and other management system platforms and their outcomes in line with quality and EOHSS requirements.
  • Develop, create, maintain, distribute and store EOHSS reports, and records as assigned.
  • Create and maintain a systemic process to ensure workflow timelines for EOHSS events and action plans are adhered to including mechanisms for EOHSS performance and trend reports.
  • Manage the EOHSS training process for the site. Including collaboratively working with trainers to develop new and revised training, accurately assigning training based on guidelines, and supporting training records requests related training for the site.
  • Executes, tracks, and manages requisitions, Check requests, expenses, correspondences, meetings
  • Key contact for internal customers, researchers, facilities, management, and other cross functional groups, building strong relationships by handling EHS inquiries.
  • Participate in and show leadership in an EOHSS culture at the site that partners with operational teams to ensure all are accountable for EOHSS culture and performance, modeling what good looks like.
  • Proactively collaborates at site and above-site levels
  • Participates in EOHSS operational and tier discussions, EOHSS committees and teams; and EOHSS self-assessments, inspections, GEMBAs, and audits.
  • Acts with integrity to provide accurate resolution of issues as they arise and is transparent in escalating site or enterprise impactful issues to the site Associate Director
  • Acts collaboratively with integrity and urgency to practically apply emerging regulation and policy to the site processes and programs.
  • Applies innovation to continually improve the effectiveness and create bold solutions for workflows and processes and learns to apply new concepts

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience and knowledge in Environmental Federal Regulations (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA)
  • Previous experience and knowledge in OSHA Federal and canton regulations preferred
  • Prior EHS Incident and/or Project Coordinator experience required
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to frequently changing priorities simultaneously and think creatively, critically, and strategically to solve problems in a complex environment with urgency, agility, and calm.
  • Prioritizes work and thinks independently, analyzes, and solves complex problems with excellent judgment, quality, and detail in an urgent manner.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset that takes a proactive, solution-oriented approach to identifying issues and developing innovative and effective solutions to improve operations.
  • Strong decision-making capability to guide assigned projects to successful conclusions
  • Experience handling confidential information and sensitive issues in a diplomatic manner to ensure integrity and confidentiality
  • Excellent transparent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proclivity for partnership and collaboration with peers, all levels of management, cross-functional teams at site and EOHSS above site teams
