Position Description:

The Senior Specialist, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for providing technical and regulatory support and implementation of all necessary measures and initiatives required by federal, state and local safety & environmental regulations & our Company's Internal Standards under the guidance of Associate Directors, Safety & the Environment.

This role provides direction and is responsible for continuous improvement as well as execution of these environmental, health and safety programs for our West Point extended sites located at Spring House Innovation Park (SHIP) and North Wales. This role provides additional support to the West Point site on an as needed. basis.

As a member of the West Point Site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team, the selected candidate will work collaboratively to ensure that compliant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs are developed and implemented within operating departments at the SHIP, North Wales & applicable West Point operations area.   Integrates EHS programs into daily operations to assure regulatory compliance, achieves continuous performance improvement, meeting EHS performance objectives.  Partners with operations to develop objectives to achieve these goals in alignment with site business goals and values.  

Performs responsibilities and addresses problems with limited supervision.

  • Completes environmental regulatory field analysis, environmental reports and permit applications, hazard assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, life safety reviews, incident investigations as required.

  • Completes environmental reports and permit applications (e.g., EPCRA Tier II, RACT III, PADEP Hazardous Waste Generator Notifications, RMW Annual Generator Report).

  • Reviews processes, facilities, procedures and management of change documents to assure conformance to recognized Federal, State & Local EHS regulations, company standards and guidelines. 

  • Provides support to client groups in completing injury/illness analysis, training, self-assessments and addressing specific EHS concerns as they are raised.

  • Utilizing knowledge of EHS regulations and their applicability, develops EHS procedures, guidelines and training programs.

  • Monitors key safety performance indicators and visibly participates in promoting EHS policies and initiatives.

  • Participates and provides leadership to sustained performance of action oriented EHS committees.

  • Assures completion of all regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EHS requirements as assigned.

  • Experience with EHS agency inspections and regulatory advocacy. Serves as primary point of contact for regulatory Inspections.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, concentration in Safety & Environmental or related chemistry, biology, or chemical engineering field is preferred.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 5-10 years applied professional EHS work experience. 

  • Advanced level of proficiency in the areas of environmental compliance, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, critical thinking, and communication skills. 

  • Intermediate level of skill with project management and problem solving.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Relevant professional certification(s) preferred including P.E., CHMM, CSP and/or CIH.

  • Experience navigating State specific regulations including Environmental air emissions reporting/permitting, water and waste program management requirements.

  • Knowledge of biosafety, industrial hygiene, and laboratory safety programs.
