Job Summary

Nuclear Waste Partnership, an LLC of Amentum, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Environmental Safety & Health Specialist to join our ES&H team located in Carlsbad, NM.

The successful candidate will report to and assist the Occupational Safety and Health (OS&H) Program Manager in the preparation and maintenance of safety and health programs, standards, procedures and policies to support the safe and healthy work environment at WIPP. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping through coordination of the collection, maintenance, retention and dissemination of all safety incident data.
  • Responsible for the monthly and annual reconciliation and reporting of work related injuries and illnesses in compliance with OSHA regulations (OSHA Form 300) and their inclusion in organizational metrics.
  • Prepares analyses and reports summarizing incidents and reflecting safety related trends.
  • Creates accurate ES&H reports and analyses based on business needs.
  • Create reports and provide information/analysis/insights to senior management team and the ability to field/respond to questions.
  • Provide management with analytical support of data including trend analysis.
  • Active participant on various project teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
  • May instruct ES&H training courses.

NWP Exempt Salary Grade (30-34)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree and two (2) years of experience in a related work scope, or
  • Associate's Degree plus six (6) years of experience in a related work scope, or
  • High School Diploma or GED plus ten (10) years of experience in a related work scope is required.
  • Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.).
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions such as temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.).
  • May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements contained in 1910, 1926 and 1904.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required.
  • Strong knowledge of DOE requirements including but not limited to 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health Program and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be US Citizens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Occupational/Industrial Safety or related field.
  • Experience with any or all of the following: DOE CAIRS, MSDS Online, TRC/DART, and DevonWay is desired.
  • Previous DOE experience is preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with CSP and/or CIH certification.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
