Job Summary

This position will be offered and filled based upon availability of position. The hours of operation for the Warehouse Specialist - 1st Shift will be Monday - Friday from 6:00am 2:30pm.

Purpose and Scope:

Works under the supervision of a designated Lead, Supervisor or Manager. Must have or be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection. Candidate will attned Transportation of Hazardous Materials to become certified to ship hazardous material. Performs range of duties within the classified department, ensures items being received, stowed or shipped meet the requirements of MIL STD 129N. Receives daily work from Lead or Supervisor. The current opening is to fill a need on day shift, however the incumbent may be asked to work, swing shift, which may include weekends and holidays.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Performs a variety of warehousing duties that require an understanding of the establishment's storage plan.
  2. Rearrange and take inventory of stored materials, examines stored materials and reports deterioration and damage.
  3. Removes material from storage and prepares it for shipment.
  4. May operate hand or power trucks in performing warehousing duties.
  5. Verify materials (or merchandise) against receiving documents, notes and reports discrepancies and obvious damages.
  6. Route materials to prescribed storage locations.
  7. Stores, stacks or palletizes material in accordance with prescribed storage methods.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical warehouse environment with no unusual hazards, frequent lifting up to 20-60 pounds, kneeling, standing, and walking, routinely sitting and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/or organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must have a High School diploman or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Must be able to attend and pass two week Transportation of Hazardous Materials course
  • Minimum twelve to eighteen months experience in material handling, supply, distribution, inspection, Audit Readiness, QA, or related processes.
  • Must be able to use DSS and other automated distribution systems used at DLA.
  • Must be able to follow requirements of MIL-STD 129 and DLA Manuals or other directives as required.
  • Must be licensed and experienced in the use of MHE.
