PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Canadian Benefits team is looking for an individual to provide benefit program management for all Canadian employees. Specifically, supporting Union agreements, Retiree benefits, Disability benefits and Non-Union Flex benefits. You will be accountable for benefits data analysis, supporting excellent employee experience, recommending continuous improvements and supporting the Manager, Canadian Benefits with the implementation of strategic initiatives.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure all employee benefit plans are administered in accordance with plan documents and contracts, collective agreements. Initiates and implements appropriate amendments/revisions to plan documentation, as required;
  • Expert resource regarding benefits issues, escalations, and grievances brought forward by employees/managers or escalated from HR Business Partners, Employee Services, Pension Services, Labour Relations, Union Representatives, etc. Collaborates with stakeholders to investigate and resolve benefit-related issues with service providers;
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries via shared Benefits Team email inbox;
  • Provide guidance to employees and/or managers with respect to disability benefits including the transition from short-term to long-term disability. Assist HR Business Partners in resolving issues arising in the application process;
  • Maintain, monitor, approve and audit disability plans payments and benefits invoices;
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by overseeing timely data transfers between CP and benefits service providers;
  • Ensure information is accurately loaded, updated, by correcting and testing all new functionality, analyze error reports and implements corrective actions, including collaborating with internal/external partners to resolve any issues;
  • Compile, analyze and reports benefits (data) utilization primarily for Union employees and Retirees, to determine trends on a year over basis by leveraging SAP, Excel, Finance partners and service provider reporting;
  • Participate in end-to-end annual FlexBenefits enrollment to ensure accuracy and excellent employee experience including, communication, testing, auditing, responding to inquiries, etc.;
  • Support implementation of new vendors/benefits by researching, documenting and troubleshooting vendor integration issues;
  • Initiate and implement new rates to ensure accurate implementation with adherence to the benefit contracts. Perform annual calculations to determine Union Pay Direct and Co-Pay rates and updates same with Payroll and Employee Services;
  • Conducts regular audits of interfaces to ensure that the programs are working as expected;
  • Audits current processes to drive process improvement; implement and document process changes; liaising where appropriate with benefit vendors and internal partners;
  • Strategy support – assist the Manager with various strategic projects (i.e. Union & Retiree Strategy, etc.) by understanding the impact of plan design changes from a system perspective and supporting the preparation of PowerPoint presentations to CP’s leadership.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources or other relevant fields, an asset;
  • GBA, CMS, RPA and/or CEBS Designation, preferred;
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in HR, Canadian Benefits, or related role;
  • Proficient in SAP, Spinifex and Advanced skill in MS Office – Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Experience taking strategic business initiatives and drilling down with business stakeholders to document clear, thorough requirements and process documentation;
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, judgement and decision-making skills;
  • A demonstrable drive to understand and solve complex problems;
  • Solution focused – enjoys the challenge of problem solving;
  • Ability to communicate issues, risks, results with management and stakeholders;
  • Attention to detail and respect for deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.

Management Conductor Program:
