Novartis protects 750 million patients and more than 100,000 employees in over 140 countries.<br><br>Sandoz, a Novartis division, is a leader in generic and biosimilar medicines and a pioneer in digital therapeutics.<br><br>Job Purpose<br>The Executive Director, Associate General Counsel - BD&L, Strategy & Portfolio will utilize broad legal and business knowledge to identify issues and opportunities. The attorney provides information and recommendations on complex legal issues, and serves as the lead legal advisor to the Business Development & Licensing team. The attorney will partner with key stakeholders to negotiate and draft licensing, co-development, distribution, authorized generic, co-promotion and M&A deals. The attorney will be asked to handle highly confidential deals with appropriate discretion. The attorney will be asked to provide legal leadership on cross-functional teams, identify legal issues relevant to the business, give recommendations to address critical issues so that business and legal objectives are met, advise and consult with employees, managers and leadership, proactively educate the business on relevant issues, serve as the legal advisor in complex business projects, analyze complex issues and concepts in a timely fashion, and review, analyze and keep current on all federal and state legal developments affecting the pharmaceutical industry. The attorney will lead a BD&L team of three attorneys and one paralegal. <br><br>Major Accountabilities<br>• Negotiate and draft a variety of deals for BD&L, as well as providing day-to-day advice. You will also support deals for the TechOps teams.<br>• Advise and support Alliance Management team in working with collaboration partners, including in resolving disputes and issues. Provides day-to-day advice to the Portfolio & Strategy team and Finance. Develop collaborative relationships with M&A, BD&L and Anti-trust and TechOps attorneys.<br>• Gain deep understanding of generic commercial business and US business risks in order to strategically craft advantageous deal terms.<br>• Trains, manages and mentors junior transactional attorneys, setting tone and culture of team.<br>• Tracks and manages BD&L outside counsel spend in accordance with negotiated fee structures and budgets. Coordinates with BD&L on monthly deal priorities for Legal team and prepares and tracks deal progress via monthly deal tracker.<br>• Serves as Legal representative to Executive Launch Management Committee. Serves as Sandoz representative to Novartis Group BD&L and M&A Practice Team.<br>• Negotiates alternative fee arrangements with outside counsel to realize significant savings and supervise outside counsel on various transactional and regulatory issues.<br>• Supports Commercial Operations overflow.<br><br>[#video#https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_NUSmKnERo{#400,300#}#/video#]
