This Accounting Consultant role is a key position on the Optum Home & Community – Senior Community Care accounting team.

If you are located in Eden Prairie, MN, you will have the flexibility to Work from home and the office in this hybrid role* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare support and journal entries for our internal and external delegated risk accounting
  • Prepare complex journal entries, month-end analytical review, financial close reporting and account reconciliations; reviews and approves work prepared by other accounting staff
  • Support External Billing
  • Medical and SG&A reporting for risk products
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations, interpretations and proposing solutions
  • Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits
  • Prepare and support annual tax filing functions for various entities
  • Working extensively with large excel files and data along with working jointly with FP&A and UHC intersegment teams
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to other staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • 3+ years of accounting experience
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, V-Lookups)
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Hyperion Smartview/Essbase, Peoplesoft Financial System and SAS
  • Public accounting experience
  • Normal month end close responsibilities, primarily internal reporting
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Detailed and well organized
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Works independently in a self-directed manner
