Accounting Part-Time Intern (Immediate Start)

The required hours for this role is 15 hours a week, with the ability to work up to 40 hours a week starting Spring 2023.
If currently located out of state, must be willing to relocate to MN by summer.
Your role may change as you grow your career in Regulatory Finance, including conversion to a full-time Accountant upon obtaining a degree in Accounting.

As a Part-time Intern within our Regulatory Finance – Accounting and Reporting division, your role will support one of the following core functions:
Financial Analysis
- Prepare and analyze business and financial metrics, on a forecasted and reported basis, for assigned legal entities throughout the year by working closely with the internal stakeholders; and
- Prepare and analyze premium deficiency reserve evaluation models for assigned legal entities; work directly with actuary, legal entity management and other stakeholders to determine appropriate assumptions and results
Financial Reporting
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, changes in capital and surplus, statements of cash flow, and supplemental financial exhibits pursuant to Statutory Accounting Principles, which is based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; and
- Prepare the annual audited financial statements and documentation in support of external and internal audits, and Department of Insurance inquiries and examinations
Additional responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to:
- Participate on a working group to develop and communicate innovative approaches for continued improvement in efficiency and effectiveness; and
- Prepare supplements to statutory filings, and other state supplemental filings

Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Accounting; with one year or less of coursework remaining
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple hard deadlines
- Demonstrate the drive and motivation to deliver high quality results based on thorough analysis
- Possess sound business knowledge and strong decision-making skills
- Demonstrate solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Communicate in an effective manner
- Collaborate with peers to share best practices and complete projects
