The Manager, State & Local Tax will be responsible for state and local tax matters with heavy focus on state income tax reporting and compliance matters for all US business units in close cooperation with federal and tax audit specialists, planning teams, business units and finance organization. Develop and assist with the implementation of planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Preparation of complex state income tax returns, for both individual legal entities and consolidated group unitary returns. Preparation and review of unitary calculations, state apportionment, credits and incentives, estimate and extension payments.

• Review of complex state returns and projects prepared by the co-sourcing provider and contractors.

• Tax Accounting. Preparation and oversight of the state income tax accounting process, including ensuring all state income tax related accounts are recorded accurately and in accordance with IFRS including monthly, quarterly and year-end payable reconciliations, current and deferred income tax provision calculations, preparation of the state effective tax rate (SETR), income tax reserves and other account reconciliations.

• Work with external and internal auditors to provide support related to state income tax accounting. Identify, research, and document the Company’s positions as they relate to the tax accounting consequences of new accounting pronouncements, changes in tax law, business transactions and activities in order to ensure the proper application of IAS 12 guidance.

• Assist with maintaining tax internal controls to ensure that the Company is compliant with the requirements and procedures established under Sarbanes Oxley (‘SOX’).

• Identify, research and analyze tax issues and planning opportunities.

• Work with tax team members on various special projects such as research tax credit study, financial analysis of intercompany transactions (transfer pricing), acquisitions, FDII and other credits and incentives.

• Assist with responses to tax notices and support for audits in various US jurisdictions. Perform research to assist with tax audits and state and local nexus inquiries.

• Assist with the implementation of tax system upgrades and process improvements.

This position will be located at the East Hanover, NJ site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $107,200.00 and $160,800.00 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Role Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or CPA. Master’s degree in accounting or MS in Tax preferred.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with state income tax accounting, compliance/unitary returns and income tax research with large public accounting firm and/or large public company tax department.

• Proficiency in PC based applications including Excel, SharePoint, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.

ONESOURCE (e.g. OIT, OTP, DataFlow) and Alteryx experience preferred.

• SAP experience preferred.

• Experience working with numerous subsidiary accounting and finance departments.

• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

• Ability to deal effectively with external tax consultants & advisors.

• Significant knowledge of US state corporate taxes and unitary rules.

• Income tax accounting knowledge IFRS/local statutory.

• Team player with good communication (both written & verbal) and presentation skills to interface with cross-functional team members and build strong working relationships with the tax team.

• Strong analytical and organizational skills; detail oriented.

• Demonstrated capability and willingness to bring issues to a conclusion.

• Proven ability to handle confidential information with tact, diplomacy, and discretion.

• Demonstrates a positive attitude and initiative in an ever-changing multi-company environment. Must be flexible, work well under rigid time pressures and be willing and able to continuously improve tax and technical skills through education and acceptance of new assignments.
