Reporting to and partnering with the M&R Medical FP&A Senior Director, the M&R Senior Financial Consultant will play a critical role in planning and reporting M&R and UHC Medical costs. As a member of the finance team, the position will manage key financial deliverables related to business planning and budgeting associated with operating expenses.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, develop, and report on financial forecasts and modeling; and partner with senior leaders to collaboratively manage and communicate forecasts for Medicare & Retirement
  • Develop or improve upon existing financial reporting tools to continuously improve insights on Medical cost trends to business partners
  • Understand the UnitedHealth Group financial process and become an active participant in the management of its financials
  • Build up financial reporting tools to communicate financial impacts of Medicare Advantage medical costs changes over time
  • Partner with SAS programming team to manage and review technical program in alignment with monthly accounting close and financial forecast cycles
  • Partner with multiple business leaders as the finance lead and liaison, and maintain a Solid working relationship
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence across a matrix environment
  • Assist with identifying, analyzing, and driving Medical cost savings into the organization
  • Assist with monthly close research and analysis
  • Various ad-hoc analyses and reports as necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of progressive financial experience
  • Work experience anticipating issues, assessing their implications, and developing and implementing an appropriate action plan
  • SAS experience
  • Solid financial, analytical, and business acumen
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office product suite

  • Project management or process improvement experience
  • Healthcare experience
  • Essbase and PeopleSoft experience
  • Ability to generate innovative approaches and solutions to business opportunities
  • Ability to build Solid relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a matrix environment to positively influence business partners
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others
  • Solid executive presence, communication, and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially with senior leaders
